About Us:

The wholesale distribution industry is ready for a revolution, and Proton is leading the charge. The world relies on distributors to sell nearly every physical product, but despite its massive contribution to the global economy, this industry has been left behind in terms of technology. Proton is changing that. With AI-powered sales software, we’re breaking through the complexity of selling millions of products and making it easier for distributors to anticipate customer needs. Our mission is to bring the distribution industry into the modern age and the results speak for themselves. Distributors using Proton see 10x ROI, faster new hire ramp-up, and happier sales teams.

In 2022, we raised a $20M Series A backed by Felicis Ventures (investors in Twitch, Shopify, Opendoor, and many others) and Battery Ventures. This year, we’re laser-focused on driving customer growth. If you’re excited about the opportunity to wear multiple hats, and continuously learn and experiment, now’s the time to join the Proton team.

The Role:

Proton helps distributors grow faster—without hiring more reps. And outbound is one of our biggest levers for net-new pipeline.

Over the past year, we’ve proven the model. Our BDRs are booking meetings, generating pipeline, and getting results. Now, we’re hiring our first BDR Manager to scale what’s working, coach our reps to be best-in-class, and build a repeatable motion that supports the next phase of growth.

That’s where you come in. You won’t just be tracking KPIs or managing from the sidelines. You’ll be the coach, the operator, and the architect—helping reps level up, testing what works, and turning a scrappy outbound motion into a high-performing machine.

Reporting to the Head of Marketing, you’ll work cross-functionally to improve how we prospect, personalize, and convert. You’ll have the autonomy to run experiments, build better processes, and drive real outcomes—then tell the story of how you scaled an early BDR team into a repeatable, efficient pipeline engine.

If you get energy from coaching, nerd out over outbound strategy, and want to build something that leaves a mark, this role is for you.

We’re hiring someone in the Greater Boston area open to a hybrid schedule (3 days in-office/week).

What you’ll do:

  • Build and scale a high-performing BDR team: You’ll take ownership of the BDR function—coaching existing reps, hiring new ones, and putting the structure in place to scale. From onboarding to performance management, you’ll define what great looks like and build a team that consistently delivers.
  • Turn outbound into a repeatable engine: You’ll refine what’s working and build systems around it—owning the workflows, cadences, and tooling that keep outbound sharp. You’ll drive discipline around execution while leaving room for experimentation.
  • Test, learn, and optimize: You’ll run outbound experiments—new messaging, channels, and tactics—and track what actually moves the needle. Your job is to make our motion more efficient over time: fewer touches per meeting, better conversion rates, stronger outcomes.
  • Partner across the go-to-market team: You’ll collaborate closely with stakeholders across sales and marketing to align outbound strategy with pipeline goals. That includes working together on sequences, persona insights, lead handoff, and campaign execution.
  • Build a playbook others will follow: You’ll take pride in building a system that scales. From onboarding to promotion paths, you’ll codify what great outbound looks like—and set the standard for future BDR hires and managers.

Who you are:

  • You’ve been a top-performing BDR. You’ve prospected, cold-called, handled brush-offs, and hit quota. You know what it takes to succeed—and you’re excited to help others get there.
  • You’ve made the jump from BDR to AE. You understand the skills, mindset, and consistency it takes to get promoted, and you can coach others on that career path.
  • You love coaching. You get energy from helping reps improve and feel real ownership over their development. You’re not managing just to manage—you’re here to build talent.
  • You nerd out on outbound. You study what works, listen to the right podcasts, and stay on top of trends in sequencing, messaging, and AI-powered prospecting.
  • You think in systems. You spot where processes break down, fix what’s not scalable, and create structure without slowing things down.
  • You understand incentives. You’ve had exposure to comp plans and career pathing and know how to align rep motivation with company goals.
  • You’re hands-on. You don’t just observe—you participate. You’re in the call reviews, helping tweak a subject line, or roleplaying how to land a meeting with a tough persona.
  • You’re AI fluent and tool-curious. You don’t just use ChatGPT to write better emails—you’re always exploring what’s out there. You stay on top of emerging tools and look for ways to improve workflows, scale personalization, and make outbound more efficient for your team.
  • You’re here to build. You want to look back and say: “I took an early BDR team and built the motion that helped scale this company.”

Benefits:

  • Competitive Salaries + Company Stock Options - we want to pay you well (and equitably!) and make you feel like an owner.
  • Flexible Schedule - we think high levels of autonomy, responsibility, and working asynchronously foster an amazing workplace.
  • Biannual Company Paid Off-sites - time for us to be together, brainstorm, and make magic happen.
