About the PositionAs an AI-focused BAML Engineer, you will drive the development of Vetcove’s BAML-powered, LLM-integrated workflows. You’ll craft effective prompts, build rigorous evaluation suites, and test emerging model releases to benchmark performance and deliver dependable AI capabilities across the platform. This role is ideal for someone who lives and breathes AI systems, and who is eager to push the boundaries of prompt engineering and model evaluation.
What You’ll DoDesign, define, and maintain BAML specifications that power new and existing product features.
Own the structure, quality, and maintainability of BAML workflows across engineering teams.
Build reusable BAML patterns and modules to standardize how Vetcove handles LLM interactions.
Ensure strong output validation, schema control, and error-handling using BAML’s declarative model.
Collaborate with product and engineering teams to translate business logic into BAML workflows.
Guide best practices for prompt structure, schema design, testing, and versioning within BAML.
Document conventions, patterns, and architectural decisions for long-term maintainability.
3–5+ years of professional software engineering experience
Bachelor’s Degree, ideally in Computer Science
Experience working with or interest in learning BAML (Boundary ML).
Understanding of how LLMs operate, even at a high level (prompting, structured output, model evaluation).
Ability to design clean abstractions and build systems that scale across teams.
Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating across engineering, product, and operations.
A focus on predictability, safety, and maintainability — especially when integrating LLM behaviors.
Experience shipping production features in a modern web framework
Ability to move quickly and handle multiple concurrent priorities
A customer-first mindset and collaborative, positive attitude
Comfortable working in a fully remote environment
Nice to Have
Experience with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.).
Familiarity with schema-based or declarative programming languages.
Experience with structured output libraries, guardrails, or validation frameworks.
Prior experience building or maintaining internal platforms or integration layers.

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is: $115,000/year - $200,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations. For Colorado, the salary range is: $135,000 - $175,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. This salary range is a good faith estimate of what Vetcove may pay for this position at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on skills, qualifications, and experience. The range reflects the base hourly rate or annual compensation (as applicable), and does not include bonus, equity or other incentives.
