  • Leverage Quest Rapid Recovery's Rapid Snap for Applications to create incremental-forever snapshots of mission-critical workloads (Windows/Linux), capturing full application states every five minutes
  • Configure backup targets across D2D, D2T, SAN/NAS, and cloud tiers

Operational Monitoring & Incident Response

  • Establish and refine monitoring/alerting protocols for backup jobs, replication tasks, and DR status
  • Use tools like Quest’s Verified Recovery to perform automated integrity checks and ensure restorable snapshots
  • Troubleshoot failures, bottlenecks, and restore issues in real-time

Disaster Recovery Architecture

  • Collaborate on DR strategy and develop automated runbooks
  • Utilize Rapid Recovery’s Live Recovery and Virtual Standby features to ensure near-zero downtime and quick failover of workloads to VMs in the event of outages
  • Conduct regular DR simulations across VMware, Hyper-V, and physical platforms

Data Integrity & Compliance

  • Enforce retention schedules, legal holds, and encryption strategies in compliance with HIPAA, GDPR, and other frameworks
  • Leverage Universal Recovery in Quest to restore everything from single files to entire systems—even to dissimilar hardware

Storage Optimization

  • Analyze usage trends and adjust de-duplication/compression policies in platforms like Rapid Recovery to maximize storage efficiency (up to 95% savings)
  • Plan capacity across on-prem and cloud (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud)

Automation & Scripting

  • Use PowerShell, Bash, or Python to automate tasks, integrate with tools like ServiceNow, Zabbix, or Splunk, and streamline backup operations

Documentation & Knowledge Management

  • Maintain thorough documentation of backup designs, DR plans, configuration files, and recovery procedures
  • Contribute to SOP libraries and internal knowledge bases

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3–5+ years in enterprise environments with backup/recovery systems across Windows/Linux workloads
  • Hands-on with at least one enterprise B&R suite (Commvault, Veeam, NetBackup, Rubrik, Quest Rapid Recovery)
  • Experience with vSphere/Hyper-V, plus integration with cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Working knowledge of NAS/SAN (NFS, SMB, iSCSI), cloud object storage (S3), and networking performance considerations
  • Proficiency in PowerShell or similar; bonus for experience scripting DR tests or backup APIs

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS

  • Commvault Certified Professional or Engineer
  • Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE)
  • Quest Rapid Recovery training/certification (preferred but not required)
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Backup and Site Recovery
  • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate

SOFT SKILLS & WORK STYLE

  • Meticulous, methodical, and obsessed with operational excellence
  • Big-picture thinker who engineers systems for redundancy and recovery
  • Cool-headed under pressure, especially in SLA-bound environments

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
