Build and maintain secure, well-tested backend systems and internal tooling (dashboards, workflows, automation) for lending and trading operations. Design scalable APIs and durable workflows, integrate external services, optimise performance, and collaborate with Risk, Ops, Trading, Product, and Engineering teams to deliver reliable production systems.
Maple transforms institutional lending, leveraging innovative technology to empower lending markets.
Our goal is to be the most reliable lender in the global financial system, distinguished by our commitment to superior user experience and transparency. At Maple, we embody a culture of ownership, relentless execution, and unwavering commitment to our customers, partners and team.
Founded in 2019, Maple has grown to become the leading institutional lender across crypto markets having originated >$17B in loans to date. The team has built a dynamic and innovative product that leverages the benefits of blockchain and smart contract technology with an intuitive and feature rich application.
The RoleWe are looking for an experienced and talented Backend Engineer with several years of first-rate commercial experience to join our Risk & Ops Engineering team. This team builds the internal tooling that powers Maple's lending and trading operations — the dashboards, workflows, and automation that our risk, ops, and trading teams rely on every day to manage billions of dollars of institutional loans, collateral and trading assets.
The position requires a deep understanding of modern backend development and a working knowledge of Web3 and Ethereum. In this role you will build the internal tools our operators use to originate loans, manage collateral, monitor positions, execute trades, and keep the protocol running safely — using cutting-edge tech and tooling in these fast, exciting times of Web3 exploration.

- Design and implement scalable APIs, services, and backend systems for reliability and maintainability
- Collaborate with Risk, Ops, Trading, Product, and Engineering teams to define, prioritize, and deliver impactful solutions
- Monitor, debug, and optimize backend performance and address bottlenecks or issues
- Ensure security best practices are implemented and maintained throughout the codebase

- Proficient in JavaScript and TypeScript, with at least 5 years of professional experience
- Advanced knowledge of Node.js and GraphQL APIs, including building and optimizing them for scale
- Experience with event-driven and asynchronous architectures
- Hands-on experience with SQL (e.g. PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (e.g. MongoDB) databases, including schema design and performance tuning
- Strong background in DevOps practices, including AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform, with experience in CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code
- Deep understanding of software documentation procedures and the ability to write clear, comprehensive documentation
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a strong ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams
