At MedScout, our mission is to empower MedTech commercial teams with the data, insights, and tools they need to deliver life-changing medical innovations to the patients who need them most. We’re creating a best-in-class revenue acceleration platform that unites the latest medical claims intelligence with an intuitive user experience built specifically for sales professionals at medical device and diagnostic companies.

After closing a $15M Series A last summer, we’re ready to bring on new team members to join our Engineering team. As a backend engineer at MedScout, you'll be building a web platform incorporating agentic AI that actively helps guide medical device reps toward the highest-impact sales opportunities. You'll be working at the intersection of massive healthcare datasets and cutting-edge AI, creating intelligent systems that can understand complex medical sales scenarios and provide actionable insights. You’ll get to push the boundaries of what's possible with agentic AI while directly impacting how life-changing medical technologies reach the patients who need them.

How will you help us build this company?

  • You will design and implement robust backend services using Python, Django, PostgreSQL, and Elastic.

  • You will collaborate with the frontend team to define and implement the APIs that power our user interface.

  • You will help design and build the no-BS agentic AI architecture that will power our shift from traditional SaaS to deeply customized user experiences.

  • You will own the simple platform and deploy pipelines our team relies on to ship quickly and help shape its future (including helping decide when it’s time for a full-time owner, whether that’s you or someone else).

  • You will work with Product, Customer Success, and Sales leaders to understand what our customers are looking to achieve with our platform and use those insights to inform and validate your thinking as you make design and implementation decisions.

  • You will lead by example, fostering a culture of high-quality code, design principles, and best practices.

What does an ideal background look like?

  • You have 5 years of combined combined backend and platform engineering experience

  • You have experience building APIs with an interpreted language like Python, Ruby, or JavaScript/TypeScript

  • You have leveraged AI coding tools to work more efficiently

  • You have experience working from customer feedback to define and build product features

  • You have knowledge of agentic AI frameworks like LangChain/LangGraph, CrewAI, LlamaIndex, etc.

  • You have experience building AI agents (even if it’s just been on your personal time!)

  • You have experience operating agentic AI or LLM-backed features in production

What can you expect from us?

  • The comp range we have set for this role is $170K - $185K 

    • Please note: Compensation is dependent on location and skill set. We will be talking about this throughout the process to ensure we are the best fit for each other

What is the interview process?

  1. Intro call with the Head of People Ops. We’ll discuss what you’re looking for in your next chapter, tell you more about the role and answer your initial questions.

  2. Interview with the VP of Engineering. You’ll have a chance to dive deeper in your background and discuss some of your career highlights, learnings and current passions. We’ll seek to understand the specific skills and attributes you’d bring to MedScout and how those map to our desired outcomes for the role.

  3. Technical Exercise / Review. We will give you a quick project to complete for us and then we will schedule some time with a team member to review and build upon it together. We will want to understand how you go about working through technical challenges and what it would be like to do that together.

  4. Team Interview. This will be a three part interview. 

    1. Product Thinking - You’ll meet with our Head of Product and VP of Eng to talk through some product related questions. We will want to learn how you have collaborated with the rest of the EPD team.

    2. Values Interview - You’ll meet with some of the members of our broader team to talk through our values, how we live them and we will want to learn what’s important to you

    3. Eng Q&A - You’ll have a chance to meet with some members of our Engineering team and ask them any questions you have about what it’s like being a member of MedScout’s engineering team. A new job is a big decision, we want to make sure we have all your questions answered.
