We are in search of a passionate scientist to join our innovative autonomous systems team. In this role you will develop and apply techniques crossing multiple fields including computer vision, machine learning, signal processing, information visualization, autonomy, data collection/analysis, and system engineering. You will work in tightly-knit, project-oriented teams as a Principal Investigator with other scientists and engineers to design, prototype, implement, and deploy leading edge technology into mission support capabilities. You will have the opportunity to support and lead research and development programs in support of autonomous systems capabilities across multiple domains. You will have the opportunity to leverage CRA’s extensive intelligent systems portfolio, attend technical and domain area conferences, and move the state of the art forward.
Example projects you would work on include:
- Multi-sensor fusion for maritime surface and subsurface object detection, classification, tracking, and threat assessment
- Autonomous behavior development for UxVs
- Underwater communications optimization
- Acoustic/sonar data collection and exfiltration
- Long-duration uncrewed vehicle technologies
- Test, evaluation, and validation of autonomous systems
- Mission planning and operations optimization technologies
- Oceanographic data collection and analysis
How will you make an impact?
- Design new methods or apply existing techniques in novel ways to solve complex sensing, perception, and autonomy challenges across the marine, ground, air and space domains
- Formulate new concepts and develop proposals for developing new capabilities
- Write technical papers and reports on existing work
- Present your work to stakeholders, collaborators, operators, and the research community
- Guide prototype and product development while engaging with end-user communities and technology partners
What Do you need?
- M.S. in Engineering, Science, or related area, with Ph.D. preferred
- 10+ years in vehicle autonomy, machine learning, sensing and analytics for perception/situational awareness, or related field
- US Citizenship with the ability to obtain a security clearance
- Experience directly interacting with customers, users, and technical experts
- Experience leading programs as a principal investigator or project engineer
- Experience writing technical proposals and generating new business
- Experience translating user community needs and system features into actionable requirements for engineering teams to produce technical capabilities
- Experience designing test scenarios, developing test plans and procedures, characterizing system performance, and documenting results
