Job Summary:
The Automation Scientist is a technically skilled and highly collaborative role based at Covaris headquarters. This position bridges technical applications, customer support, and solution development—working directly with customers, sales teams, and collaborators to drive adoption of automated Covaris’ protein and genomics sample preparation workflows. Whether responding to technical inquiries, performing troubleshooting, or showcasing capabilities through demonstrations, this individual plays a hands-on role in ensuring customer success. In addition to supporting day-to-day technical needs, the Automation Scientist also contributes to strategic initiatives by developing user manuals, SOPs, training resources, and supporting the release of automation-ready collateral that highlights Covaris Automation Solutions for Proteomics and Genomics applications. The ideal candidate is motivated by problem-solving, confident presenting to both scientific and commercial audiences, and eager to contribute to the growth of Covaris automation solutions through impactful content creation and hands-on technical expertise in protein workflows and sample preparation solutions.
Responsibilities:
· Serve as a subject matter expert for Covaris automation solutions in customer-facing and internal interactions
· Provide high-level technical and applications support to automation customers through presentations, troubleshooting, and workflow optimization
· Collaborate with Sales, Product Management, and R&D to align customer needs with Covaris solutions and generate technical proposals
· Support business development activities by identifying opportunities, performing needs assessments, and enabling field team success
· Create technical collateral, including application notes, abstracts, protocols, and training documents
· Contribute feedback to product development based on customer interaction and market trends
· Document and manage customer and collaborator projects from design to delivery
· Deliver customer training and technical demonstrations in person and virtually
· Maintain accurate records within a regulated ISO-13485 environment
Basic Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, or related field
· 2+ years’ experience with automated liquid handler programming and protocol development
o Examples: Hamilton VENUS, Tecan Fluent Control, Dynamic Devices Method Manager, and/or similar platforms
· 2+ years’ experience with proteomics, NGS, and molecular biology workflows
· 2+ years’ experience supporting internal and external customers
Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong presentation and technical writing skills
• Experience with FFPE extraction
• High comfort level engaging with customers and leading technical discussions
• Knowledge of programming languages (Python, R, C#, or C++) is a plus
• Experience working in ISO-13485 regulated environments is preferred
• Experience in applications support roles preferred
• Comfortable working cross-functionally in a collaborative and fast-paced setting
• Experience with Covaris instrumentation and methods is desirable
