Summary:

The Associate Taxable Research Analyst supports the firm’s taxable fixed income investment team through fundamental research, financial analysis, relative-value assessment, and ongoing surveillance of corporate issuers. Working with senior analysts, portfolio managers, and traders, the analyst will evaluate issuer and industry fundamentals, identify key risks, and contribute to actionable investment recommendations.

As the associate analyst develops deeper industry knowledge, analytical capability, and investment judgment, the role is expected to progress toward more dedicated and independent coverage responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct fundamental credit analysis of corporate issuers, including assessment of business models, competitive positioning, industry conditions, financial performance, capital structure, liquidity, and downside risks.
  • Support senior analysts’ broader sector and issuer coverage through earnings analysis, industry research, review of company filings and rating-agency reports, and preparation for issuer and management meetings.
  • Build and maintain financial models covering operating performance, cash flow, leverage, liquidity, debt-service capacity, and downside scenarios.
  • Develop and communicate concise, well-supported credit opinions, relative value views, and investment recommendations addressing issuer fundamentals, key risks, catalysts, and valuation.
  • Evaluate relative value across issuers, sectors, ratings, maturities, and portions of the capital structure using spread, yield, total-return, and risk-adjusted frameworks.
  • Monitor issuers and sectors for material developments and support portfolio surveillance, watch-list maintenance, and ongoing investment-thesis reviews.
  • Participate in the evaluation of new bond issues and provide timely analysis of issuer credit quality, transaction structure, pricing, and relative value.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in corporate credit research, fixed income, leveraged finance, commercial or investment banking, rating-agency analysis, or a related role with demonstrated exposure to corporate credit analysis.
  • CFA charter holder or progress toward the CFA designation preferred.
  • Familiarity with corporate credit markets, including financial statement analysis, cash flow, leverage, liquidity, capital structure, credit ratings, spreads, and downside risk.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving skills, and technical skills with ability to form, clearly communicate, and provide well-supported conclusions.
  • Detail-oriented, accountable, and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and assume increasing responsibility over time.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively within a team-oriented investment process.
  • Strong technical aptitude and demonstrated interest in applying technology, data, automation, and generative AI to enhance investment research, analytical processes, and team workflows. Familiarity with generative AI tools and their use in research, data analysis, and workflow enhancement is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience building or maintaining financial models.
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg, FactSet, Capital IQ, or comparable financial-data and research platforms preferred.
  • Experience with Python, SQL, Power BI, Power Automate, VBA, or similar programming, data-analysis, or workflow-automation tools preferred.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
