Associate Scientist, R&D - Product Development
Role Summary
  • This is a Research and Development (R&D) role leading project initiatives across the Core Meats categories (Oscar Mayer Cold Cuts, Bacon and Hot Dogs) within the Meat , Cheese , Coffee & Snacking Business Unit. The candidate will be executing and/or driving technical projects to meet business initiatives focused on Innovation, Renovation and Brand Maintenance. This candidate must have a technical background and excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to apply prior learning or scientific principles to new situations. This position requires an individual to manage multiple assignments/ tasks concurrently and demonstrate the ability to complete work with minimal guidance. Exhibiting a collaborative mindset and applying creative solutions are a must.

Key Components
  • Responsible for developing and commercializing new products, renovating existing products, reviewing and evaluating ingredients, and delivering cost savings across the Meat and Cheese Category.

  • Work collaboratively with Packaging R&D, Quality, Operations, Manufacturing, Project Management, Marketing, and Sales to drive, scope, execute projects to meet the business objectives.

  • Technical project leadership activities include prototype development, cost evaluations, execution of factory trials, development of product specification, factory document generation, recipe and label development, shelf life assessment.

  • Other project leadership activities include conducting risk and feasibility assessments, coordinating with cross-functional teammates to organize product tastings and sensory evaluations, set-ups of systems for new ingredients and finished goods.

Qualifications
  • BS in Food Science, Meat Science, Animal Science, Chemical Engineering or related field

  • Solid understanding of food chemistry, analytical testing, formulations and processing used in food manufacturing

  • Understanding of ingredient functionality and interrelationship of ingredients, process, and packaging

  • Good communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills

  • Self-starter with a passion to learn is a must

  • Strong understanding of Design of Experiments

  • Manage multiple assignments/tasks concurrently with the ability to question the priority of work

  • Willingness to travel 30%

  • Internship or Co-op Experience in the food or consumer products industry preferred

New Hire Base Salary Range:
$68,900.00 - $86,100.00
Bonus: This position is eligible for a performance-based bonus as provided by the plan terms and governing documents.
The compensation offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors
