About the Opportunity
The Center for Signal Processing, Imaging, Reasoning and Learning (SPIRAL) at Northeastern University (NU) is seeking an Associate Research Scientist with a strong expertise in electrical and computer engineering, including physics, mathematics, signal processing, and machine learning demonstrated by a relevant Ph.D. degree and a scholarly record. The Associate Research Scientist will take a leading role in contemplating and conducting research, jointly with faculty and other postdoctoral research staff at SPIRAL. The Associate Research Scientist will lead projects and research teams under the broad theme of physiological signal processing, system modeling, and intervention design, with applications to a range of cognitive psychology, neuroscience, physiological, and biomedical problem domains. The Associate Research Scientist is expected to contribute to existing collaboration networks involving SPIRAL faculty, including the PEN (Psychologists, Engineers, Neuroscientists) Group at NU, and establish new collaborative research directions to expand the research activities and impact of SPIRAL under this theme. A significant component of the responsibilities for the role will include technical leadership of project teams funded by grants or contracts, mentoring of junior project personnel, superb execution of technical work to achieve impactful research outcomes and outstanding deliverables on schedule, including peer-reviewed publications. The candidate will be expected to develop research concepts, and help with proposals to seek external funding to support research activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
- Required: Ph.D. in Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field.
Required Skills/Qualities
- Advanced mathematics and physics knowledge with ability to apply to modeling/engineering.
- Advanced probability and information theory knowledge with the ability to apply to machine learning.
- Experience with neuroscience and cognitive psychology data modeling and analysis.
- Experience with programming in Python for machine learning implementation.
- Excellent oral and writing skills, for example demonstrated by scholarly publications.
Desired Skills/Qualities
- Experience with relevant software packages, such as PyTorch, scikit-learn, PsychoPy

Expected Hiring Range:
$66,851.00 - $94,427.75
