The Analytics team plays a critical role in transforming investment data into meaningful insights that power Morningstar's products and client solutions. We generate over 250 billion data points annually across managed investments, equities, and fixed-income datasets. Our outputs span both historical metrics-such as performance data and portfolio statistics, including the Morningstar Rating for Funds and the Morningstar Style Box-as well as forward-looking analytics and ratings, including the Morningstar Portfolio Risk Score and quantitatively assigned Morningstar Medalist Ratings.Our unwavering commitment to high-quality data and analytics is the foundation for empowering investor success.
The Role: As an Associate Quantitative Analyst, you will support our Analytics Service Groups in the areas of model validation and/or special research projects. You will learn the core methodologies of that Service Group and fully integrate into the Service Group's production processes. Working alongside product managers, software engineers, other quantitative researchers, and key downstream stakeholders, you will ensure the integrity and timeliness of model output and the robustness of the underlying methodologies.
We are looking for an individual who possesses strong technical skills, problem solving capability, consulting skills, and an interest in leadership to build efficient model verification frameworks. Alongside the person should have a passion for investment research.

Job responsibilities:
- Ensure the integrity and timeliness of model output, as well as the stability, conceptual soundness, and mathematical/statistical logic of the models.
- Liaise between business, technical and modeling teams, senior management, and governance committees to build efficient model verification frameworks.
- Consistently improve upon existing model validation processes, with an eye toward automation, efficiency, and robustness.
- Work with other model validation analysts to develop cross-team checks that can improve production processes across Analytics.
- Support dashboarding capabilities to support Quality Checks(interactive/automated/visual) that improve the interpretability of predictive models and underlying data.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or financial discipline
- Proficient in at least one statistical modeling language (Python or R)
- Proficient with SQL
- Knowledge of statistical methods
- Ability to stay organized and to quickly and efficiently handle multiple projects at the same time is crucial in this role
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, while also taking ownership of projects independently with minimal supervision
- Intellectual curiosity for the world of quantitative research
