Your Role:As an Insurance Product Manager, you will provide comprehensive support for the development and pricing of both existing and new insurance products. This position involves cross-functional collaboration across various departments, including new product design, underwriting, catastrophe management, policy contracts, system enhancements, regulatory compliance, competitive analysis, pricing strategies, and sales and marketing. This role partners closely with technically skilled teams such as data science, IT, actuarial, marketing, and finance to ensure the successful delivery of work products. Operating with limited supervision, this position is designed for individuals who are building their expertise in the insurance field and are actively involved in the design, development, and implementation of new products and programs.)
Your work:Product Strategy & Development
- Acts as supporting partner to leaders and senior team members on product development efforts.
- Supports changes to policies and guidelines.
- Participates in the development of new products based on knowledge of products, consumers and competition, partnering with Marketing, Sales, Legal and State Product Management where appropriate.
Product Management
- Develops an understanding of the technical aspects of a line of business and/or the tools and techniques of Product Management to produce reports to monitor product performance by mix including metrics such as quotes, close ratios, retention, loss ratios, etc. and develops solutions to address any opportunities.
- Partners with Actuarial to develop and execute pricing model refreshes. May review pricing structure and changes for approval by leaders.
Profit/loss oversight
- Partners with manager and/or senior product managers to establish initiative objectives and key results that ladder up to enterprise profitability goals.
Strategic Innovation and Growth
- Provides research and insights to support recommendations for future products.
- Supports acquisition and retention strategies to achieve business objectives.
Project Management
- Participate in division or enterprise-wide projects, by performing cost/benefits analyses, while supporting project management communication.
- Provides inputs on business deliverables such as state-specific research, operational processes, and DOI filings are completed and aligned to IT timelines.
Competitive Intelligence
- Performs competitive environment research to share insights on market dynamics with other Product Managers and Leaders.
- Conducts competitive analysis as needed for projects and proposals.
Business Requirements and IT Partnership
- Support documentation of product specifications or high-level business requirements that account for all policy lifecycles (e.g., quote, bind, renew) and partners with IT to expand these into acceptance criteria
- Helps resolve defects related to assigned products/projects.
Market Execution
- Supports development of, or modification to, processes and procedures for Sales, Service, Claims, and any other impacted areas of the business thru system testing and validation.
Presentation
- May assist in building visually compelling presentations tailored to audience and venue (virtual vs. in-person).
Leadership & Culture Stewardship
- Actively shapes our company culture (e.g., participating in employee resource groups, volunteering, etc.)
- Lives into cultural norms (e.g., willing to have cameras when it matters: helping onboard new team members, building relationships, etc.)
- Travels as needed for role, including divisional / team meetings and other in-person meetings
- Fulfills business needs, which may include investing extra time, helping other teams, etc
Required Experience, Education and Skills
- bachelor’s degree in related area (Insurance/Risk Management, Marketing, Business, or a related field) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 4+ years of increasingly responsible product management experience
- Basic knowledge of product and project management, product profitability, sales and strategic planning
- Understanding of financial analysis and reporting skills
- Ability and skills to successfully operate on on cross functional teams
- Organizational and problem solving skills
- Understanding of product analysis, principles and methods
- Developing business and technical writing skills (e.g. proposals, PowerPoint presentation, business requirements, Microsoft project, Suite Microsoft Office)
- Basic understanding of Project Management techniques and processes
- Solid communication, presentation, and persuasion skills of internal and external partners and stakeholders
- Understanding of business systems and processes and how they link together
- Ability to gather rich feedback from business stakeholders
- Understanding of how to develop business requirements that contemplate all policy lifecycles (quote, bind, renew, etc.)
- CPCU and/or Actuarial exams
- Actively shapes our company culture (e.g., participating in employee resource groups, volunteering, etc.)
