Encora is seeking an ambitious and skilled Associate Principal Data Consultant with 2–5 years of experience in data engineering, analytics, or data architecture. In this role, you will serve as a bridge between technical teams and client stakeholders—helping to define, design, and deliver impactful data-driven solutions. You'll work closely with senior consultants and client leadership to support the implementation of scalable data strategies.

This is a hybrid role that blends technical execution with early-stage consulting leadership. Ideal for someone ready to take the next step in owning client deliverables while continuing to develop deep expertise in data systems.

You will work remote, supporting EST work hours. This is a 6 month project with high likelihood of extension.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with clients to understand business needs, define data requirements, and translate them into actionable technical solutions.
  • Lead small to mid-sized data projects or workstreams, including planning, execution, and delivery oversight.
  • Design and implement modern data architectures including data lakes, warehouses, and pipeline frameworks.
  • Conduct data assessments, develop roadmaps, and provide recommendations aligned with business goals.
  • Build and maintain data pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows using tools like dbt, Airflow, or cloud-native services.
  • Create documentation, diagrams, and data catalogs to support solution design and client knowledge transfer.
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior consultants and contribute to internal knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data scientists, engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2–5 years of experience in data engineering, analytics consulting, or similar roles.
  • Strong SQL skills and proficiency in at least one programming language (Python preferred).
  • Experience designing and building data pipelines and warehouse solutions (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with clients and translate complex data challenges into clear deliverables.
  • Understanding of data governance, data quality, and data privacy best practices.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a consulting or client-facing role.
  • Exposure to data strategy, assessment, or data product development.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Looker, Tableau).
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and project management practices.
  • Interest or experience in machine learning workflows or MLOps is a plus.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
