Oura is seeking a Director to lead enterprise‑wide global legal strategy and counsel with a strong grounding in international expansion, global privacy, trade, and product regulatory law. This role sets the strategic legal roadmap across jurisdictions, operationalizes scalable governance frameworks, and partners cross‑functionally to support enable market entry, compliant product launches, and durable business operations.

What you will do: 

  • Provide strategic legal counsel on international expansion, entity and market‑entry pathways, compliance, and risk considerations for operations in new and existing jurisdictions.
  • Advise on global privacy and data protection requirements, including cross‑border data transfers and localized requirements including on user terms, notices, privacy impact assessments, vendor contracts, and consent approaches.  
  • Help harmonize regional requirements into global standards with pragmatic country‑level deviations that facilitate the ability to quickly expand into new jurisdictions.
  • Partner with Regulatory Affairs and Product to align on regulatory pathways and compliance considerations for new features and markets.
  • Build, maintain, and socialize scalable legal templates, guardrails, and playbooks that streamline international launches and reduce cycle time. 
  • Manage multi-jurisdictional launches, including coordinating with outside counsel across regions and consolidating country-specific advice into clear, actionable guidance that can be communicated with and operationalized by internal technical and non-legal stakeholders.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact and lead for regulatory authority inquiries, enforcement matters, risk-related considerations, and policy interpretation; coordinate strategy and communications with outside counsel as needed.
  • Advise on advertising and promotional compliance, substantiation requirements, and labelling considerations to ensure alignment with regulatory clearances and applicable consumer protection laws.
  • Provide counsel on global trade compliance for product and data flows, including export controls (EAR/ITAR), sanctions/embargoes, customs/import classification (HTS), ECCN and dual‑use analysis, restricted‑party screening, and distributor/partner diligence.  
  • Support the design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of policies, training, and controls to support prompt cross‑border launches and supply chain resilience.
  • Drive legal program enablement by helping to develop simple intake, triage, and review lanes; clear escalation paths; and metrics that demonstrate business enablement, internal compliance, and risk management.

This is a remote US role.

We would love to consider you for this role if you have:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) and good standing with at least one U.S. state bar (or international equivalent in a common law jurisdiction).
  • 10+ years of relevant legal experience, including advising on international expansion and global privacy and/or product regulatory matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to counsel cross‑functional teams (Product, Regulatory, Marketing, Sales, Engineering, Operations) in a fast‑paced environment with pragmatic, business‑forward guidance.
  • Strong working knowledge of major global privacy frameworks and cross‑border transfer mechanisms, and familiarity with international consumer and marketing law considerations. Comfort translating complex, multi‑regional rules into actionable, product‑ready requirements.
  • Experience building scalable legal processes (templates, playbooks, SLAs), communicating with regulators, and managing outside counsel across regions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; capable of simplifying complexity for executive and non‑legal audiences.

Preferred experience

  • In‑house experience at a high‑growth technology or consumer health company.
  • Exposure to wearable technologies, digital health, connected devices, and/or software‑as‑a‑medical‑device regulation.
  • Specific expertise supporting LATAM and/or APAC markets.

Oura takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. US locations are categorized into tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. While most offers will be closer to the starting range, successful candidates' pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal peer equity, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

  • Region 1 $200,600 - $236,000
  • Region 2 $182,250 - $215,000
  • Region 3 $164,900 - $223,100
