This isn’t just a job—it’s your chance to help shape a community hub where kids learn to swim, families connect, and lives are changed every single day.  The Associate Executive Director supports the Executive Director in leading branch operations, driving strategic initiatives, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality programs aligned with the YMCA’s mission. This role is responsible for overseeing key departments, developing staff, and fostering community partnerships that advance youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

 

Position Summary

The Associate Executive Director supports the Executive Director in leading branch operations, driving strategic initiatives, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality programs aligned with the YMCA’s mission. This role is responsible for overseeing key departments, developing staff, and fostering community partnerships that advance youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and direct supervision to program and operational departments (e.g., wellness, aquatics, membership, childcare).
  • Assist in the development and execution of branch strategic plans and annual operating goals.
  • Manage budgets, financial reporting, and revenue growth initiatives.
  • Ensure excellence in member experience and program quality.
  • Recruit, train, and develop staff while promoting a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and local organizations.
  • Support fundraising efforts, including annual campaigns and special events.
  • Ensure compliance with YMCA policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as Executive Director in their absence.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Provide leadership and direct supervision to program and operational departments (e.g., wellness, aquatics, membership, camp, fitness, group exercise).
  • Assist in the development and execution of branch strategic plans and annual operating goals.
  • Manage budgets, financial reporting, and revenue growth initiatives.
  • Ensure excellence in member experience and program quality.
  • Recruit, train, and develop staff while promoting a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and local organizations.
  • Support fundraising efforts, including annual campaigns and special events.
  • Ensure compliance with YMCA policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as Executive Director in their absence

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Multi-Team or Branch Leader Certification from Y-USA (preferred)
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s strongly preferred
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience required
  • CPR/AED certifications required
  • Ability to work and thrive as part of a cohesive team
  • Strong interpersonal, customer services and networking skills necessary
  • Ability to lift/move heavy equipment and clean when necessary
  • Will sometimes work early morning, late nights and weekends
  • Strong oral communication skills required for occasional public speaking responsibilities
  • Excellent written communication skills and proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs
