About the role | Mō te tūranga
We are looking for an Associate Director Wholesale Credit Analyst to join our Wholesale Banking team in Auckland. In this role, you will combine credit risk expertise, financial analysis and commercial judgement to support complex lending decisions, manage portfolio risk and help deliver strong client outcomes.
As a trusted risk partner, you will be responsible for the analysis, assessment and ongoing management of a portfolio of Wholesale Banking clients. You will provide clear, independent credit insight while partnering closely with Relationship Managers, Product Specialists and Risk colleagues to support sustainable business growth within the bank’s risk appetite.
This is a front-line credit role with genuine influence. Your work will directly shape lending decisions, portfolio quality, client strategy and the strength of the control environment. You will also have exposure to a high-quality, diversified wholesale portfolio and the opportunity to contribute to a high-performing team within an established and growing franchise.
Key responsibilities
Prepare high-quality credit submissions and assess lending proposals against risk appetite, policy and underwriting standards.
Analyse financial performance, forecasts, sensitivities, business risks, industry dynamics, sustainability considerations and client structures to support sound credit decisions.
Assess key credit risk metrics, profitability and portfolio performance, providing clear and independent recommendations.
Determine and support key credit risk parameters, including probability of default and loss given default, where relevant.
Conduct annual credit reviews, monitor covenant compliance and special conditions, and proactively identify emerging client or portfolio risks.
Partner closely with Relationship Managers, Product Specialists and other stakeholders to support client outcomes and responsible business growth.
Participate in client engagements where your credit perspective can add value to structuring, decision-making and long-term relationship outcomes.
Contribute to portfolio insights, strategic projects, process improvements and knowledge sharing across the team.
About you | Ō pūkenga
You are a highly analytical and commercially minded banking professional who can assess risk with discipline while keeping sight of client outcomes and business growth.
You are confident working with complexity, clear in your communication and comfortable influencing stakeholders through thoughtful analysis and sound judgement.
Minimum 6–7 years’ experience within banking, financial services or a related environment.
Strong exposure to Wholesale, Corporate or Institutional Banking clients.
Experience as a Credit Analyst, Credit Approver, Portfolio Manager, Relationship Manager or similar role.
Proven experience analysing complex credit transactions and preparing clear, well-structured credit submissions.
Strong credit and risk assessment capability, with sound commercial judgement and high-quality financial analysis skills.
Confident written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage credibly with senior stakeholders.
A collaborative, proactive and team-oriented mindset, with the ability to manage priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Qualifications
Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Commerce or a related discipline.
A postgraduate qualification such as CA, CFA, MBA or similar will be highly regarded.
