What we need:

The Associate Director of Stop Loss Underwriting will be responsible for the overall management of the Special Risk market segment. The leader will be required to inspire, motivate, and direct a team of four underwriters to profitably grow and retain accounts. In scope of the position is Stop Loss representation within Underwriting Leadership meetings and projects in support of divisional goals. The leader will also act as an interdepartmental and cross-functional liaison in alignment with strategic vision and BCBSMA organizational objectives.

Your day to day:

In this role, you will create and oversee the Stop Loss corporate strategy which includes book of business and business exception management to attain profitable growth.     You'll manage team to ensure timely turnaround times, deadlines are met with minimum increases based on goals, while also fostering an environment that rewards creativity and encourages thoughtful risk taking.

Additionally, you will:

  • Influence and participate in the development, implementation, and ongoing management of complex department and inter-department projects such as reporting, vendor management, process improvement and change management.
  • Partner with all Financial Underwriting market segment leaders, Product Management, Sales, Actuarial, and Contracts stakeholders to enhance and support initiatives, processes and procedures to achieve business objectives.
  • Provide feedback to the executive team regarding special projects and business results.

We’re Looking for:

  • Someone who demonstrates high level of motivation with a strong record of professional accomplishment and leadership, including proven experience of handling issue escalation and prioritization of processes.

  • A positive, inspiring leader who embodies a growth mindset and exemplifies excellent strategic thinking, analytical skills and definitive decision-making based on authority levels outlined.

  • The ability to lead and manage the work of others in an efficient manner; understands priorities and has a sense of urgency. Proven ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • The ability to balance a high level of customer service while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

  • A proven track record of recommending efficient and effective workflows in conjunction with internal and external constituents.

  • The ability to communicate (both orally and in writing) at all levels within the organization using tact and diplomacy.

What You Bring:

  • Ten years of Stop Loss experience.

  • Seven years of management experience required.

  • An Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is required; a Masters degree highly desirable.

  • Must possess superior oral and written communication skills with the ability to present information to a variety of audiences

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high-volume environment.

Salary Range: $150,480.00 - $183,920.00


The job posting range is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future.  An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs and affordability.

This job is also eligible for variable pay.
