Associate Director - Securities and Derivatives

Locations: Denver, CO; Boston, MA; Waltham, MA; Kansas City, MO - HYBRID

About the Role:

The Senior Securities & Derivatives Analyst is responsible for supporting the analysis, valuation, trade processing, reconciliation, and lifecycle management of securities and derivative instruments across the firm. This role requires strong knowledge of capital markets, securities operations, derivatives, financial data, and risk controls, along with the ability to investigate complex issues and work effectively with internal stakeholders and external counterparties.

The successful candidate will serve as a subject-matter resource for securities and derivatives activity, helping ensure accurate transaction processing, timely resolution of exceptions, effective risk management, and adherence to applicable policies and regulatory requirements.

How You Will Make an Impact 

  • Analyze and monitor securities and derivative transactions across products such as equities, fixed income, futures, options, swaps, and other structured instruments.
  • Support the full trade lifecycle, including trade capture, confirmation, settlement, valuation, corporate actions, collateral, margin, and expiration or termination events.
  • Perform daily reconciliations of positions, cash, transactions, valuations, and related financial data between internal systems and external counterparties or custodians.
  • Investigate and resolve trade, position, cash, valuation, and settlement discrepancies, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Review derivative terms, confirmations, and transaction documentation to ensure transactions are accurately reflected in internal systems.
  • Monitor operational and financial risks associated with securities and derivatives activity and escalate material issues appropriately.
  • Analyze market data, pricing information, and valuation inputs to support accurate reporting and risk oversight.
  • Partner with Trading, Operations, Risk, Finance, Treasury, Technology, Compliance, and other business functions to resolve issues and improve processes.
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities, including valuation reviews, reconciliations, reporting, and financial controls.
  • Prepare and maintain management reports, operational metrics, exception reporting, and other analyses related to securities and derivatives activity.
  • Assist with regulatory, internal audit, and compliance requirements related to securities and derivatives operations.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes, strengthen controls, improve data quality, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Participate in system implementations, upgrades, testing, and process-development initiatives.
  • Serve as a senior escalation point and subject-matter expert for complex securities and derivatives issues.
  • Mentor junior analysts and contribute to the development of team procedures, controls, and best practices.

Required Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in securities, derivatives, capital markets, investment operations, financial analysis, or a related financial-services environment.
  • Strong understanding of securities and derivatives products, transaction lifecycles, and financial markets.
  • Experience with trade processing, reconciliations, settlements, valuations, and exception management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate complex issues and determine root causes.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including data analysis, lookups, pivot tables, and financial modeling.
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to work accurately with large volumes of financial data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across business and functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with derivatives such as options, futures, swaps, forwards, or structured products.
  • Knowledge of OTC and exchange-traded derivatives.
  • Experience modeling these derivative types on InvestOne accounting software.
  • Familiarity with derivative valuation, pricing models, collateral, margin, and exposure concepts.
  • Experience with securities or derivatives platforms and financial data systems.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, Python, VBA, Power BI, or other data-analysis and automation tools.
  • Experience with financial reporting, regulatory reporting, or internal controls.
  • Professional certification such as CFA, FRM, CPA, or equivalent is a plus.
  • Experience working in a bank, broker-dealer, asset manager, investment firm, fintech, or other regulated financial-services organization.

Actual base salary will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to relevant skills, prior experience, education, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.

Colorado: The expected base salary for the position is between $85,000 USD to $160,000 USD. Massachusetts: The expected base salary for the position is between $95,000 USD to $125,000 USD.

In addition, employees in this role may be eligible for consideration on an annual basis for a discretionary bonus and/or equity awards, such as restricted stock units or stock options, based upon individual and business performance at the company’s discretion.
