About the Role
The Associate Director of Portfolio Business Analytics is a key contributor of Product and Partnering organization, a Flagship Pioneering initiative focused on conceiving and developing transformative treatments for patients. We build a portfolio of novel therapeutics by harnessing Flagship’s scientific platforms and applying them to serious diseases beyond their current focus areas. Through this approach, we aim to bring the benefits of Flagship’s innovation to more patients, faster.
This role sits at the intersection of science, strategy, and finance—supporting portfolio decision-making through rigorous analytics, financial modeling, and market evaluation. The successful candidate will combine deep biopharma industry knowledge with advanced financial modeling skills, particularly in valuation and forecasting of pharmaceutical products across therapeutic areas and development stages. The individual will collaborate across R&D, business development, finance, and commercial strategy teams to generate data-driven insights that inform portfolio and investment decisions.
Key Responsibilities

- Support capital allocation analyses and portfolio prioritization through rigorous sensitivity and risk-adjusted analyses.
- Maintain and improve financial models and forecasting frameworks as portfolio complexity increases.
Market and Competitive Analytics
- Conduct comprehensive market landscape analyses using both secondary sources and primary research (e.g., KOL interviews, surveys) to assess unmet needs, competitive dynamics, and market potential.
- Monitor key trends in relevant therapeutic areas and biopharma markets to inform portfolio strategy.
- Understand competitive positioning of ongoing and planned Pioneering Medicines programs.
- Summarize market and competitor insights into clear, concise reports for leadership review.
Portfolio Strategy & Governance Support
- Build and maintain portfolio analytics tools and frameworks to support resource planning, portfolio valuation, and scenario modeling.
- Prepare high-quality materials and analyses for internal governance and investment committee reviews, including portfolio summaries, risk assessments, and valuation comparisons.
- Ensure consistent use of financial and operational metrics across programs and functions.
- Benchmark portfolio and organizational performance against comparable biotech and pharma peers to identify key measures of success.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with R&D, Competitive intelligence, Finance, Business Development, and Commercial Strategy teams to align scientific and business perspectives in portfolio analytics.
- Collaborate with data and insights teams to integrate forecasting models with relevant clinical and operational data systems.
