Biogen’s Decision & Quality Analytics Innovation (DQAI) team is part of Portfolio Leadership, Analytics & Insights (PLAI), which is under the Development department. The vision of the DQAI team is to deliver trusted insights that drive smarter decisions and measurable impact across the research, development and medical (RDM).

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Associate Director of Data Management & Stewardship to join our team. This individual will take ownership of managing all aspects of our team’s data - from acquisition and stewardship to governance and cross-functional alignment. The role will ensure that our data foundation is robust, well-governed, and positioned to enable advanced analytics, including AI/ML, simulation, etc. and ultimately support critical portfolio decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Own the Data Foundation

  • Manage the full lifecycle of portfolio and analytics data across research, development, and quality functions - from acquisition to retirement.
  • Lead onboarding and integration of internal and external datasets into enterprise systems, ensuring compliance with governance standards.
  • Serve as business owner of our Snowflake data warehouse to support scalability, interoperability, and advanced analytics workloads.

Establish Governance & Quality

  • Define data quality metrics, build data governance SOPs, and maintain audit-ready datasets that meet regulatory requirements.
  • Implement data stewardship frameworks that ensure accuracy, accessibility, and long-term sustainability of critical data assets.
  • Navigate clinical data governance requirements including program firewalls, restricted access controls, and GxP/GDPR compliance.

Drive Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Partner with IT, Finance, Clinical Operations, Regulatory, Safety, and Commercial teams to harmonize data standards across the enterprise.
  • Serve as the primary data strategy advisor in enterprise-wide technology and data initiatives.
  • Translate complex data governance concepts for technical, clinical, and business audiences to drive adoption.

Enable Innovation

  • Identify emerging data sources and anticipate future data needs to keep the architecture AI/ML-ready.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance the data platform for advanced analytics, machine learning, and simulation capabilities.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in data management, data engineering, or data governance, with at least 3 years in roles requiring cross-functional coordination.
  • Hands-on expertise with Snowflake and/or other cloud-based data warehouse technologies, including building and maintaining compliant data environments.
  • Strong understanding of clinical data governance, including program firewalls, restricted data access, and regulatory compliance (GxP, GDPR).
  • Experience establishing data stewardship frameworks and ensuring audit-ready data quality
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical, clinical, and business stakeholders.

Preferred:

  • Experience in pharmaceutical or biotech R&D data environments.
  • Familiarity with clinical program data structures at the study, asset, and portfolio level.
  • Experience managing vendor data relationships (CROs, benchmarking providers, real-world data sources).
  • Knowledge of pharma data flows across Clinical Operations, Regulatory, Safety, Finance, and Commercial functions.

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $176,000.00-$242,000.00


Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.

Regular employees are eligible to receive both short term and long-term incentives, including cash bonus and equity incentive opportunities, designed to reward recent achievements and recognize your future potential based on individual, business unit and company performance.
