The Associate Director, Clinical Costing System and Tools will drive and support the development, maintenance, enhancement, modernization and governance of our enterprise R&D resource need estimation and external cost estimation tools for Phase I–III clinical trials within BeOne.

This role, acting as a product owner, will be responsible for transitioning legacy models and tools into a new unified algorithmic resource and costing engine.

This role, sitting at the intersection of clinical trial operations and technical engineering, will be responsible for supporting the technical design of robust resourcing and costing methodologies, work with functional teams to develop and review costing algorithms, and ensure seamless integration of our tools with internal systems across clinical trial functions (CTMS, EDC etc.), Resource Management, Finance (SAP etc.), HR (Workday etc), and IT in support of accurate study level internal & external cost estimation as well as forecast of resource requirements.

The ideal candidate brings sound technical, engineering, operational and system development knowledge & experience within CRO or biopharmaceutical industry, ability to translate complex operational, resource estimation and pricing requirements into technical roadmaps, strong analytical and systems-thinking capabilities, and exceptional cross-functional communication skills.

The ideal candidate brings experience of leading the enterprise level or functional initiatives. This position plays a crucial role in enhancing resourcing and costing accuracy, operational efficiency, and financial insight throughout our organization.

Essential Functions of the Job:

1. Costing Tool & Algorithm Development

  • Support the design, development, and continuous improvement of the clinical trial costing tool(s).

  • Support the development and refine costing models and algorithms for Phase I–III clinical trials, incorporating functional inputs across global clinical operations, start-up, regulatory, safety, medical & clinical sciences, data management, biostatistics, medical writing, and other units.

  • Ensure cost drivers, assumptions, effort models, service levels, and resource seniority levels are accurate, scalable, and aligned with operational realities.

  • Partner with functional subject matter experts (SMEs) to maintain up-to-date operational parameters and cost benchmarks.

2.  Governance & Process Management

  • Support the leadership in implementing and overseeing the cross-functional system and tools governance frameworks, including cost assumptions, version control, approval flows, and auditability.

  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), guidance documents, and training materials.

  • Supporting monitoring compliance and escalating exceptions or identified risks.

  • Provide training and support to internal stakeholders, Functional units, Global Strategic Sourcing,  and Finance teams.

3. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Resource Management to integrate capacity, utilization, and effort drivers into costing models.

  • Collaborate with Finance on resource structure, budget methodologies and validation processes.

  • Partner with HR to ensure alignment of job roles, labour categories, and seniority levels

  • Coordinate with IT to support system integration, data flows, user access, and technical enhancements.

4. Systems Integration & Technical Implementation

  • Guide integration of the Costing tool with enterprise systems (e.g., budgeting, financial tracking, resource forecasting, HRIS platforms).

  • Coordinate with IT on system specifications, testing (UAT), releases, and troubleshooting.

  • Ensure data integrity, automation, and reporting capabilities meet business needs.

5. Data Analytics & Insights

  • Analyze cost trends, operational performance, and competitiveness to inform leadership decisions.

  • Generate dashboards, scenario models, and pricing insights to support any external business development activities as well as charge back mechanism.

  • Contribute to benchmarking, portfolio analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency in Excel, financial modelling tools, and pricing/costing platforms—including Excel-based, web-based, or integrated enterprise systems—is required. Exposure to programming languages such as Python, as well as experience leveraging AI tools to develop agentic AI solutions, would be considered an added advantage

Other Qualifications:    

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Business, Finance, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field.

  • 8+ years of experience in the CRO or biopharmaceutical industry, preferably in Pricing Tools and Systems, clinical operations, project finance, business operations, or proposal & Costing management.

  • Strong understanding of clinical trial delivery across Phases I–III and associated cost drivers.

  • Experience with pricing tools, operational costing, resource modelling, or financial planning systems.

  • Proven track record working cross-functionally with operational, commercial, and technical teams.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and collaboration skills.

  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate operational details into quantitative models.

  • Familiarity with financial modelling, pricing governance, and change management.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous, and evolving environment.

Salary Range: $141,600.00 - $191,600.00 annually

Actual compensation packages are determined by several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, certifications, relevant education or training, and specific work location. Packages may vary by location due to differences in the cost of labor. The recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for a preferred location during the hiring process.  Please note that the listed range reflects the base salary or hourly range only. Non-Commercial roles are eligible to participate in the annual bonus plan, and Commercial roles are eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
