  • Creative Collaboration: Partner across disciplines (Art and Copy) to create foundational creative stories and systems that set the standard for all tactical executions.
  • Systems-First Oversight: Oversee creative output to ensure a "systems-first" approach to all design and copy development.
  • Insight-Driven Design: Collaborate with strategy and other departments to ensure communications are rooted in deep customer insights.
  • Client Stewardship: Navigate senior-level creative reviews with a focus on strategic solutions and establishing scalable brand platforms.
  • Leadership and Mentorship: Supervise the work of others—generally 2–4 employees—mentoring junior and mid-level creatives toward systematic, foundational thinking.
  • New Business: Contribute to new business pitches from insight-gathering and strategic development through concept creation and client presentation.

These are qualifications we are looking for:

  • 8 plus years of proven experience in art direction and design leadership within an AOR agency or design firm
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, and/or equivalent work experience
  • Mastery of "systems thinking" with a portfolio showcasing scalable, modular design.
  • Ability to translate nuanced strategies into elegant and impactful creative solutions.
  • Strong background in digital-first design and omnichannel content architecture with expertise in developing component-based systems within tools like Figma.
  • Expertise in navigating the balance between creative excellence and strict medical/regulatory guidelines.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates elite craft, conceptual firepower, and the ability to handle high-stakes brand stewardship.
  • Exceptional presentation skills with the ability to defend ideas and executions to senior stakeholders.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
