The Team
Upstart’s Product Compliance team is a collaborative, solution-oriented group that partners closely with Product, Marketing, and Operations to enable innovation while mitigating regulatory risk. The team is focused on embedding compliance into the product development lifecycle, helping the business move fast without sacrificing control. Our goal is to build trust through clear guidance, scalable processes, and proactive risk management.
As the Associate Compliance Manager at Upstart, you will play a key role in enabling compliant growth by reviewing marketing collateral and partner materials across Upstart’s lending products. You’ll collaborate with Marketing and other business teams to support fast-paced launches while ensuring content aligns with regulatory expectations and internal policies. Your judgment, communication skills, and flexibility will be essential to helping the business navigate ambiguity and deliver compliant, customer-centric messaging.
Position Location - This role is available in the following locations: Remote
Time Zone Requirements - This team operates on the East/West Coast time zones.
Travel Requirements - As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions’ cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time.
How you’ll make an impact:
- Review and provide feedback on marketing assets (social media, direct mail, email, co-branded materials) to ensure alignment with compliance standards.
- Translate complex policies and regulations into clear, actionable guidance for Marketing teams.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to find creative, risk-aware solutions that support business objectives.
- Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation of decisions and rationales.
- Support process improvements that increase the speed and consistency of compliance reviews.
- Act as a project manager for cross-functional compliance initiatives that support growth and transformation
What we’re looking for:
- Minimum requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in compliance, legal, risk, marketing operations, or a related field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to deliver clear, actionable feedback
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects or high-volume work under tight deadlines
- Experience reviewing or handling customer-facing content in a regulated or fast-paced environment
- Preferred qualifications:
- Knowledge of consumer protection concepts such as UDAAP, TCPA, or advertising compliance
- Ability to balance risk mitigation with business enablement, offering practical solutions instead of binary decisions
- Skilled in using AI tools for tasks like drafting, summarizing, or organizing content
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams such as Marketing, Product, or Legal
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and applying sound judgment when regulatory guidance is not black and white
- Familiarity with creative or content review tools such as Figma or similar platforms
At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
