JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The AVP of Business Systems & Applications, as part of the Content Engineering team, is responsible for leading the operations, transformation and continuous improvement of content-related business systems across the broadcast and digital media ecosystem. This includes Business Scheduling System (BSS), Astro Metadata System (AMS), metadata delivery and distribution workflows, media orchestration and automation, selected Media Asset Management System (MAM) integrations, and AI-enabled workflow implementation that supports content enrichment, scheduling, localization, quality control, operational automation and downstream distribution.
What You will do:
The role governs end-to-end metadata and AI-enabled content workflows to improve data accuracy, delivery reliability, operational efficiency, process optimization and business agility. The candidate is expected to translate business requirements into scalable workflow solutions, drive adoption of automation and AI-assisted metadata capabilities, and ensure appropriate governance, controls and compliance are embedded across content operations, AI use cases and distribution touchpoints.
The candidate will act as the operational and delivery lead for the Content Engineering business systems portfolio, overseeing platform capacity planning, technical maintenance, workflow governance and delivery prioritization. The role includes, but is not limited to:
- Lead stakeholder engagement across content, scheduling, metadata, digital, distribution, engineering and product teams to align metadata requirements, delivery priorities and downstream consumption needs.
- Drive capacity planning, platform lifecycle management, system refresh initiatives and roadmap planning for metadata delivery, AI workflow enablement, content business systems and automation platforms.
- Ensure platform availability, operational resilience, incident management and continuous service improvement in a 24/7 broadcast environment.
- Priorities and manage change requests, enhancements, automation initiatives and sprint backlogs based on business value, operational urgency and resource availability.
- Manage a small in-house development and automation team, including sprint planning, task allocation, code review coordination, delivery tracking and release readiness.
- Implement AI-assisted and low-code development workflows, including practical use of tools such as Codex, Kiro or equivalent AI coding assistants, while maintaining engineering governance, security review, documentation and human oversight.
- Establish governance for both metadata and AI workflows, including metadata standards, delivery validation, use-case qualification, model/tool evaluation, quality assurance, auditability, data protection, risk controls and responsible adoption across content operations.
REQUIREMENTS:
Who You Are:
Minimum 10 years of working experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or equivalent.
At least 6–7 years of experience in broadcast, media operations or content technology, preferably managing business-critical platforms in a 24/7 environment.
Experience leading support engineers, analysts or small in-house development teams responsible for platform support, workflow automation, sprint delivery or enhancement development.
Practical knowledge of agile delivery, sprint planning, backlog prioritisation, release coordination and resource planning for internal development or automation workstreams.
Working knowledge of media and entertainment platforms, preferably business scheduling systems, metadata platforms, content distribution workflows, orchestration tools and selected media asset management integrations.
Working knowledge of databases such as MSSQL or MySQL, including the ability to understand data models, write queries, support troubleshooting and coordinate database-related optimisation activities.
Working knowledge of public cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure, with understanding of integration, scalability, security and operational support considerations.
Experience implementing or governing both metadata and AI-enabled workflows in the media and entertainment industry, such as metadata enrichment, metadata extraction, delivery validation, subtitling, content QC, recommendation data readiness, workflow automation or AI-assisted production support.
Familiarity with AI-assisted coding or vibe-coding workflows using tools such as Codex, Kiro or equivalent platforms, including the ability to guide use cases, review outputs, manage risks and ensure maintainable delivery.
Strong governance mindset covering service management, cybersecurity, data protection, AI usage controls, documentation, auditability and vendor accountability.
ITIL certification or equivalent service management experience is preferred.
Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage internal business users, technology teams, vendors and senior stakeholders.
