As part of group management team that includes a Group President/CEO and Group VP Finance/CFO, the Assistant Group Controller at Marmon Plumbing & Refrigeration, with annual revenues of $1 billion, is the key interface with business unit vice presidents of finance, controllers, and accounting personnel regarding most accounting and financial matters.  Key activities include ensuring the integrity and quality of financial reporting, managing financial planning processes, improving internal controls and compliance with policies, financial integration of acquisitions, and helping business units improve their accounting and finance processes. In this highly visible position, the Assistant Group Controller is ideally situated to demonstrate their capability, make a significant contribution, and prepare for increased responsibility.  The Assistant Group Controller reports directly to the Marmon Plumbing & Refrigeration Group CFO. We are seeking a high-potential candidate with a strong ability and willingness to contribute to the group's expansion, financial reporting accuracy, and acquisition onboarding efforts.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Monthly

  • Project manage the month end closing calendar ensuring business units and Group meet all month end deliverables and due dates
  • Prepare Group’s summary of financial results including commentary addressing variances to budget, forecast and prior year
  • Proactively address and understand new transactions and issues of concern raised during review of business unit financial submissions and highlight these items to Group CFO so that decisions regarding proper accounting treatment can be finalized prior to finalization business units monthly financials
  • Support business units during the OneStream upload process and completion of OneStream data forms
  • Ensure that intercompany account balances agree and assist business units resolving differences
  • Review revenue and profit elimination entries prepared by business units. Compare to budget and prior year and investigate any material differences
  • Prepare and record monthly intercompany profit in inventory elimination journal entry
  • Review month-end financial statements and schedules submitted by the business units and compare to OneStream submissions.
  • Review and ensure the accuracy of consolidated Group financial results (income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows) and other data submitted to OneStream by the business units.
  • Review monthly business unit financial and operating reports
  • Prepare month-end consolidated Group and business unit metrics for financial reporting
  • Assist the Group CFO in the draft of the month-end commentary.  Assist with any follow-up questions or concerns
  • Prepare and distribute consolidating Group financial statements. Investigate and resolve any problems or issues
  • Investigate and report on drivers of working capital trends
  • Consolidate and report monthly ad hoc reporting initiatives
  • Consolidate and report monthly business unit forecasts, identifying drivers for variances to budget and prior year
  • Certify business unit and Group final financials results in OneStream

Quarterly

  • Support business units during completion of OneStream quarterly data forms
  • Consolidate and report quarterly growth initiatives/opportunities, automation initiatives, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Develop and report the Group’s monthly IT expenditures comparing to budget and prior year
  • Gather and prepare data and charts for quarterly business review (“QBR”) meetings
  • Review all business unit group analytics in AuditBoard and assess if appropriate accounting and Marmon policies were followed.  Ensure analysis and explanations are sufficient and properly address the changes flagged in the analytics
  • Provide Marmon corporate with quarterly financial schedules, additional commentary or footnote related items as requested
  • Perform competitor analysis for the Plumbing and Refrigeration Group
  • Prepare and disseminate schedules and instructions for quarterly forecasts and other ad hoc financial reporting as required
  • Consolidate and review quarterly financial forecasts
  • Prepare financial reports for Marmon management meetings

Annually

  • Prepare and disseminate schedules and instructions for the annual budget and strategic plans
  • For all financial budgeting processes, ensure all OneStream-related processes (uploads, entity configuration, data forms, and reports) are working correctly. Work with Marmon corporate accounting and Marmon FP&A to resolve any problems or issues in a timely manner
  • Review and ensure the accuracy of consolidated Group planning data
  • Coordinate and review post-completion audits of major capital projects and restructurings
  • Work with business units to improve compliance with GAAP and Marmon accounting policies, and to improve internal and external audit results
  • Coordinate internal control compliance testing at business units
  • Coordinate, consolidate and review any additional year-end data and reports for Marmon corporate
  • Perform annual goodwill and intangibles impairment analyses as needed
  • Prepare and distribute monthly financial close calendar.  Update the calendar periodically as necessary

Ad Hoc Assignments

  • Respond to business unit requests for guidance and clarification for accounting and financial reporting related items, including compliance with Marmon policies
  • Work with business units to improve and simplify accounting, FP&A, and administrative processes
  • Support financial analysis of potential acquisition targets and participate in due diligence
  • Collaborate in finance and accounting activities for newly acquired companies ensuring seamless acquisition integration and adherence to Marmon policies
  • Create OneStream reports for ad hoc analysis/reporting using OneStream dashboards and OneStream’s Excel add-in functionality
  • Review capital expenditure requests
  • Address questions or concerns as raised by internal and external auditors
  • Request and remove OneStream user access for business unit accounting and finance personnel
  • Ensure OneStream access control is up to date and coordinate new users with training
  • Support Marmon corporate requests and analysis

Requirements

  • Experience: 2+ years of progressive experience in accounting and financial analysis roles, demonstrating a strong foundation in financial principles and practices
  • Supervisory Skills: Supervisory experience is desirable, along with strong influential management skills and excellent interpersonal skills. A customer-service mindset is a fundamental requirement, as the role involves collaboration across various teams and groups
  • Travel: Up to 25%
  • Remote: 100% remote or hybrid working arrangement permissible

Pay Range:

96,000.00 - 144,000.00
