About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking an Assistant General Counsel - Executive Director to join the Unsecured Lending Legal Section within the Consumer Lending Division of the Wells Fargo Legal Department. The Unsecured Lending Legal Section supports the Consumer and Small Business Card, Merchant Services, Personal Loans and Retail Services lines of business. This senior lawyer will report directly to the head of the Unsecured Lending Legal Section.
In this role, you will:
  • Lead the Unsecured Lending horizontal alignment strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges across multiple areas supported by the Unsecured Lending Legal Section. Ability to collaborate and ensure consistency with other business lines in the Company and the various teams within the Legal Department and contribute to the overall Company policy.
  • Lead Unsecured Lending's strategic priorities and initiatives to expand Consumer and Small Business Card's relationship with other Wells Fargo customers. Ability to collaborate and ensure consistency between the Unsecured Lending and Consumer Banking business lines and the various teams within the Legal Department.
  • Develop relationships with and provide guidance to senior leadership, including executive officers, on issues that may present legal, regulatory, compliance, or reputation risk of the Company and provide guidance on implementation of enterprise policy.
  • Engage and have a significant impact on the Company's operations, strategies, or profitability.
  • Participate in and manage initiatives relevant to the Company's business or Legal Department strategic priorities, and supervise complex, strategic, or operational projects.
  • Recognized as an expert in highly complex areas of law, having demonstrated the ability to address significant legal matters, which may span multiple business lines and practice groups. Desired subject matter expertise in the following areas of law: Truth in Lending Act (TILA)/Regulation Z (including the Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009); Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA)/Regulation B; Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)/Regulation V; and Unfair, Deceptive, or Abusive Acts or Practices (UDAAP)/Unfair, Deceptive Acts or Practices (UDAP).
  • Collaborate within the department and across business and staff functions to address legal and risk issues in a manner consistent with the best interest of Wells Fargo.
  • Take an active role in the development, oversight, and delegation of tasks to more junior staff.
  • Provide legal advice and support on bank supervisory matters, complex consumer remediations, escalated media complaints, internal audits, emerging regulatory risks, and other escalated matters impacting the Consumer Lending lines of business.
  • Provide substantive legal advice on matters for more experienced management of the Corporation
  • Educate, train, and supervise less experienced attorneys within the Legal department
  • Collaborate with and influence all levels of professionals, including more experienced managers
  • Oversee and take an active role in the education and training of a team of attorneys
  • Engage and influence stakeholders, internal partners, and peers associated with the function or affected by its outcomes
Required Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of Law experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • Active State Bar membership or the equivalent in a country outside the United States
Desired Qualifications:
  • Extensive consumer regulatory experience, including deep understanding of relevant legal authorities.
  • Expertise on consumer protection laws, including TILA, ECOA, FCRA, UDAAP, and state corollaries, particularly as they relate to acquisition/originations and servicing of unsecured lending products.
  • Familiarity with payment network rules (e.g., Visa, MasterCard).
  • Expertise in consumer or other financial regulatory exams or enforcement matters.
  • Significant experience representing or operating within large, matrixed organizations providing legal advice and support in connection with risk and regulatory topics.
  • Proven ability to create and sustain effective, influential, and trusted relationships with senior leaders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Pay Range
Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.
$215,000.00 - $355,000.00
