Overview

What You Will Do

We are seeking a hands-on Assistant Controller to own the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the company. This role is ideal for a Senior Accounting Manager ready to step into full ownership within a creative services / professional services environment.

We have a strong accounting foundation, a tight close, and clear processes. You will be trained and supported by the current Controller, and you will be expected to quickly take ownership and operate independently.

You will partner closely with the CFO on forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow, while leading a small accounting team and ensuring accurate, timely financial reporting.

Accounting & Close
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Review journal entries, reconciliations, and quarterly analytics
  • Own monthly deliverables and data submissions to the parent company
  • Complete and ensure compliance with required SOX controls
  • Ensure accurate ASC 606 revenue recognition in a project-based services model
  • Deliver clean, timely financial statements and variance analysis
  • Deliver adhoc analysis and reporting as needed
Revenue, Billing & AR
  • Oversee project-based revenue recognition and billing
  • Ensure revenue is supported by SOWs, POs, and hours
  • Supervise:
    • Senior Accountant
    • AR Specialist
    • Client Finance Analyst
  • Maintain strong AR discipline and cash conversion
Cash Flow, Forecasting & Budgeting
  • Own short-term cash flow visibility
  • Partner with the CFO on:
    • Forecasting and re-forecastingAnnual budgetingFinancial analysis and insights for leadership
Corporate Partnership (AP & Payroll)
  • Act as primary liaison to corporate finance for AP and payroll
  • Review, reconcile, and ensure accurate period recognition of expenses
  • Coordinate and support timely payments, assist in resolve issues AP issues, and maintain clean handoffs
Systems & Tech Enablement
  • Own and optimize the accounting system (Maconomy experience strongly preferred)
  • Ensure accurate project setup, revenue tracking, and reporting
  • Continuously improve systems, workflows, and data integrity
  • Leverage technology to increase efficiency and clarity
Leadership
  • Lead and develop a small, capable accounting team
  • Set clear expectations, accountability, and standards
  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Revenue, and Leadership
Qualifications

What You Will Need to be Successful

  • 6–10+ years of accounting experience
  • Assistant Controller, Senior Accounting Manager, or equivalent experience in agency, creative services, consulting, or professional services
  • Strong working knowledge of ASC 606
  • Experience working within or supporting a public company environment
  • Tech-savvy and systems-oriented
  • Comfortable operating in a tight close environment
  • Detail-driven, organized, and accountable
  • Confident owning work while collaborating closely
  • Calm, steady presence under deadlines
  • Maconomy (strong plus)
  • ERP and project accounting systems
  • Strong Excel / Google Sheets skills
Compensation

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $125,000 to $155,000 and applies only to jobs performed in Culver City, California. This range represents the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. Please note that we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
