We are looking for a strong technical accountant with depth in revenue recognition and inventory and cost accounting in a hardware manufacturing environment. This individual will own the monthly close, lead the annual GAAP financial statement audit, and serve as a key accounting contributor to an upcoming ERP implementation.

This role carries real ownership from day one and the opportunity to shape how the function operates as the company scales.

Responsibilities:

Financial Close & General Accounting

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including journal entry review, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
  • Maintain general ledger integrity, reviewing and approving all journal entries prior to posting
  • Own the fixed asset subledger, capitalization policy, and depreciation methodology
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable subledger governance, and serve as an authorized approver on outbound wire transfers
  • Lead the annual GAAP financial statement audit from start to finish, including auditor relationship management, schedule preparation, and resolution of findings
  • Maintain year-round audit readiness and prepare technical accounting memoranda for complex or judgmental positions
  • Build and maintain the company's accounting policy manual, internal controls framework, and process documentation

Revenue Recognition & Contract Accounting

  • Own revenue recognition under ASC 606 across various government contract types, with an emphasis on fixed-price contracts, including contract modifications, variable consideration, and performance obligation analysis
  • Partner with program controls on EAC/ETC review and sign off on contract margin positions
  • Maintain compliance with FAR cost principles applicable to revenue and billing

Inventory & Cost Accounting

  • Own cost accounting for production costing, including absorption costing, overhead rate application, and WIP close
  • Maintain MMAS-compliant costing systems and partner with manufacturing operations on BOM accuracy and cost roll-up integrity
  • Serve as the primary accounting point of contact for DCAA floor checks and cost-related audit inquiries

Accounting Systems & Process Improvement

  • Serve as a key accounting contributor to an ERP implementation, providing input on chart of accounts design, cost pool structure, and user acceptance testing
  • Proactively identify opportunities to streamline and automate accounting workflows, and lead implementation of system-based improvements

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop the Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, and Cost Accountant, providing technical direction, workload oversight, and mentorship
  • Partner with program management, contracts administration, and the Director of Finance on contract-level financial reporting matters

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA or CMA designation obtained (active licensure not required)
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong technical accounting background with demonstrated depth in revenue recognition (ASC 606) and inventory/cost accounting in a manufacturing environment
  • Track record of owning a GAAP financial statement audit from start to finish
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with a modern ERP system
  • A self-starter who takes full ownership of outcomes and is comfortable operating with significant autonomy in a lean, fast-moving team
  • U.S. person status required; must be eligible to obtain a U.S. government security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience in a venture-backed or PE-backed defense, aerospace, or space company
  • Public accounting background with government contractor or aerospace clients
  • Familiarity with FAR, CAS, and DCAA audit processes
