Assistant Athletics/Sports Information Director
Position SummaryThayer Academy seeks an Assistant Athletics/Sports Information Director to lead the school’s athletics storytelling, digital presence, and information systems while also serving as an assistant within the Athletic Department. This position reports to the Director of Athletics.
What you’ll do:
Assistant Athletic Director
- Assist with game day operations and oversight of athletic contests.
- Provide administrative support in the athletic department and work closely with coaches, athletic administrators, and training staff to ensure a professional game day experience across all athletic facilities, including the South Athletic Campus.
Social Media and Digital Communications
- Set strategic direction for athletic social media accounts while coordinating with coaches and student leaders on varsity team accounts to ensure appropriate content and adherence to brand guidelines.
- Assist with live gameday coverage, score updates, highlights, and postgame recaps for varsity contests and key away or playoff games.
- Create gameday graphics, schedules, and short-form video content; track media coverage and engagement; and circulate media clips related to Thayer student-athletes, alumni athletes, and teams to relevant stakeholders.
Website, Digital Content, Communications and Database Management
- Help maintain the Thayer Athletics website and MySchoolApp athletics structure, including annual updates to team descriptions and photos, coach bios, team and individual awards, and alumni in college sports.
- Write game recaps and captions for contests, and contribute to feature stories and the weekly athletics newsletter. Create additional content in partnership with the Directors of Athletics, Admissions, and Marketing & Communications.
- Establish and maintain standards for collecting, organizing, and archiving records, rosters, statistics, awards, and historical data, ensuring accurate, consistent data entry across all programs.
- Assist with tracking season-by-season results, all-time records, and individual milestones across varsity, JV, and Middle School sports, and help maintain calendars and schedule planning.
Film, Video, Photography Game Day Experience, School Spirit, and Program Feedback
- Oversee HUDL film management and coordinate video livestream operations.
- Help maintain and update monitors in the Sawyer Athletic Center and Cahall.
- Oversee photography for team photos, including senior night, coordinating with third-party photographers as needed.
- Assist with planning athletics media days, including scheduling and logistics, and help recruit and support student photographers and videographers. Staff athletic events as needed, including playoff games and tournament appearances.
- Assist with game day experience initiatives to elevate the student fan experience at home contests, and support school spirit efforts in collaboration with student leaders and administration.
- Help develop and distribute end-of-season surveys to gather feedback from coaches and student-athletes, and support the use of captain and coach feedback to evaluate and improve programming.
Advancement and Hall of Fame
- Serve as athletics liaison to the Advancement Office, and partner with the Athletic Director and Senior Associate Athletic Director to manage Hall of Fame nominations, committee meetings, induction materials, awards, and event logistics.
Additional Responsibilities
- Coach one season of a sport.
- Athletic department administrative responsibilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
What we are looking for:
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, media, design, sports information, or a related field.
• Preferred two years of social media/communications experience in a professional setting, ideally with an athletics program, school, or sports organization.
• Photography and videography skills preferred, with proficiency in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or comparable platforms;
• Working knowledge of athletics and sports programs, familiarity with HUDL or comparable film/video platforms preferred.
• Strong written communication skills, including experience with game recaps, captions, and feature content. Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage detailed data systems and maintain accuracy across multiple programs.
• Ability to build healthy working relationships and collaborate with coaches, colleagues, and campus partners.
• Self-starter with strong motivation and work ethic, able to work independently and as part of a team; eagerness to learn new skills and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and school vacations as needed during athletic seasons.
Compensation:
- $67,000-$70,000
- Commensurate with experience and qualifications
