Job Overview:
As an Art Director at Resident, you'll be a key member of our internal creative team dedicated to supporting our parent company, Ashley Home. In this role, you'll help shape the visual storytelling of one of the largest home furnishings brands in the world through compelling photography and video content. You’ll be responsible for conceptualizing and executing creative direction for product presentation across multiple channels—bringing Ashley’s merchandise to life in emotionally resonant and visually inspiring ways. From leading on-set productions to overseeing 3D image creation, you'll blend high-end aesthetics with commercial impact to support brand evolution and growth. We're looking for a creative leader with a sharp eye for composition, lighting, and styling—someone who can guide the creative expression of Ashley Home into its next era while upholding a cohesive, elevated brand identity.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Lead the creative development of seasonal campaigns, evergreen content, and promotional storytelling across digital and retail touchpoints—including paid media, email, site, and social.
- Translate strategic briefs into innovative, presentation-ready concept decks that inspire stakeholders and align with business goals.
- Curate elevated product assortments for campaign and editorial shoots, balancing brand vision with merchandising priorities and commercial performance.
- Partner closely with cross-functional teams (merchandising, marketing, e-commerce, and content strategy) to understand and deliver on product storytelling objectives.
- Own the creation of comprehensive shot lists, storyboards, and creative briefs that guide production with clarity and purpose.
- Direct high-impact photo and video shoots—from pre-production through post—providing decisive on-set leadership, real-time creative feedback, and agile decision-making.
- Establish visual standards for silo photography, developing scalable templates and art direction guides that drive consistency across categories and teams.
- Leverage emerging tools and techniques, including AI-generated imagery and curated stock, to support content creation when traditional production isn’t feasible.
- Collaborate with 3D artists and CGI partners to ensure photorealistic renderings that align with brand aesthetics and category-specific standards.
- Oversee post-production workflows and asset delivery, ensuring all creative outputs meet the highest quality standards and campaign deadlines.
- Uphold and evolve the visual identity of Ashley Home, pushing creative boundaries while maintaining cohesion across all channels.
- Contribute to production planning, advising on timelines, crew needs, and budget allocations to optimize resources and creative outcomes.
- Stay ahead of visual and retail trends in photography, styling, interior design, and competitive branding to continuously inform and inspire creative direction.
Skills/Qualifications:
- 6+ years of professional experience in art direction, with specific focus on lifestyle photography/videography for home furnishings, interiors, or related fields
- Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Visual Communications, Photography, or related field preferred
- Strong portfolio showcasing sophisticated visual aesthetic across channels
- Demonstrated experience directing professional photo and video shoots from concept to completion
- Proficiency in 3D visualization workflows and directing 3D artists to achieve photorealistic renderings
- Deep understanding of lighting techniques, composition, color theory, and visual storytelling
- Expert knowledge of Figma, & Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Photoshop and Lightroom)
- Experience with production planning, budget management, and team coordination
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills with ability to articulate creative vision clearly
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external vendors
- Genuine passion for interior design, home furnishings, and current design trends
- Experience with e-commerce, luxury, or retail brands preferred
