Are you passionate about aquatics, water safety, and creating positive experiences for others? The YMCA of the North Shore is seeking a Part-Time Aquatics Coordinator to join our team at the Ipswich YMCA.

In this role, you'll help lead a variety of aquatics programs while supporting a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for members of all ages. From swim lessons and lifeguarding to special events and community partnerships, you'll play an important role in strengthening our community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

What You'll DoLeadership & Program Development
  • Help create and maintain exceptional aquatics programs that provide a safe, engaging, and enjoyable experience for all participants.
  • Support a variety of aquatic offerings, including swim lessons, lifeguarding, aquatics classes, open swim, vacation programs, and special events.
  • Implement YMCA swim curriculum and promote skill development through progressive instruction.
  • Stay current with YMCA best practices and industry trends to continually enhance programming.
Staff Leadership & Development
  • Recruit, onboard, train, and support lifeguards, swim instructors, and aquatics staff.
  • Ensure staff maintain required certifications and complete all required YMCA training.
  • Foster a positive, supportive team culture through coaching, communication, and recognition.
  • Assist with staff scheduling to ensure appropriate coverage for programs and member needs.
Member & Program Engagement
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for members, participants, and families.
  • Build positive relationships through exceptional customer service and daily interactions.
  • Support member retention by providing outstanding program experiences and responsive communication.
Community Engagement
  • Develop relationships with local schools, community organizations, and partners to expand aquatics opportunities.
  • Help identify community needs and support the development of programs that increase participation and accessibility.
Safety & Facility Operations
  • Help ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained aquatic environment.
  • Coordinate daily pool testing with the designated Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and promptly communicate any concerns.
  • Enforce YMCA policies, safety procedures, and risk management practices to ensure the well-being of all participants and staff.
What We're Looking For
  • Passion for aquatics, water safety, and youth development.
  • Previous experience in aquatics, swim instruction, lifeguarding, or aquatic program coordination preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with members, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Current lifeguard and CPR/AED certifications preferred or the ability to obtain required certifications within an established timeframe.

QualificationsQualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, youth services, recreation, or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant work experience.

  • Current and valid aquatic-related certifications required; must maintain all certifications throughout employment.

  • Ability and willingness to obtain YMCA-specific certifications and any required permits or licenses.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including at least one year supervising staff and leading youth programs with participants of varying ages.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively engage individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Flexible schedule with the ability to adjust to changing program needs.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Must be physically and mentally capable of maintaining required certifications and responding appropriately to emergencies.

  • Ability to work in environments with exposure to chlorine and other pool chemicals.

  • Must be able to react quickly, calmly, and effectively to unexpected situations to ensure participant safety.
