About Intangible

Intangible is a spatial intelligence AI company for creatives in film, advertising, events, marketing and interactive media. We make constructing 3D experiences dramatically faster, cheaper and more collaborative for creative, distributed teams.

We are an interdisciplinary team of engineers, artists and designers that have built and shipped multiple end-to-end products at companies like Apple, Unity, Pixar, ILM and Electronic Arts. Intangible is seed funded by a16z Speedrun, Crosslink Capital and prominent angels.

We are a design-obsessed, engineering-heavy team shipping a groundbreaking product — and we’re looking for someone who shares our attention to detail and love of craft.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Applied AI Engineer focused in Image/Video Diffusion to join our growing team. You'll play a principal role in designing and building AI assistants that empower people to use interactive 3D as a medium.

Location: Preference for SF/Bay Area, CA. Open to remote candidates in North America & Western EU.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and optimize visual generative AI models (e.g. Stable Diffusion, Flux) for fast inference and high-quality outputs

  • Design inference pipelines to deliver real-time or near-real-time visual content generation in production environments

  • Fine-tune foundation models or adapt pre-trained visual models for domain-specific creative tasks (e.g. 3D asset generation, style transfer)

  • Prototype and integrate AI-driven visual features in collaboration with product and engineering teams

  • Analyze and improve model performance, balancing latency, quality, and computational efficiency

  • Build and maintain data pipelines for processing and augmenting visual datasets (e.g. images, 3D models, textures)

  • Collaborate with artists and designers to ensure AI outputs meet creative and aesthetic standards

  • Innovate out-of-the-box creative solutions by leveraging existing generative technologies (e.g. pre-trained models, open-source frameworks) to achieve exceptional visual results tailored to user needs

Key Competencies
  • Proven expertise in software development with a focus on AI/ML applications

  • Deep understanding of visual generative AI principles, including diffusion models, GANs, and VAEs

  • Strong experience with modern ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and visual AI libraries (e.g., Hugging Face Diffusers, OpenCV)

  • Proficiency in optimizing models for fast inference (e.g., quantization, pruning, knowledge distillation)

  • Experience with visual data processing and storage, including vector databases for embeddings (e.g., Pinecone, Weaviate)

  • Proficient in Python and related ML/visual processing libraries (e.g., PIL, NumPy, Blender Python API)

  • Ability to ship end-to-end AI features in production environments

Bonus Qualities
  • Experience building real-time visual AI systems for creative applications (e.g., 3D modeling, animation, or game development)

  • Background in computer graphics, 3D rendering, or computational design

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) for deploying AI models

  • Experience with hardware acceleration (e.g., CUDA, TensorRT) for optimizing visual model inference

  • Knowledge of creative tools (e.g., Blender, Unreal Engine, Unity) and their integration with AI pipelines

  • Contributions to open-source visual AI projects or research in generative AI optimization

Benefits
  • We are a remote-first company with a small concentration in the Bay Area.

  • Health insurance for you and your dependants

  • 401(k) plan

  • Flexible PTO

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
