Position Overview
The Application Engineer & Quotation Specialist serves as a critical technical liaison between the Engineering department and Sales organization, focusing primarily on manufactured power distribution equipment. This role acts as a technical expert for the company's manufactured product lines, providing feasibility assessments, cost estimation, and technical specification reviews to support the sales process for manufactured equipment. The position reports to the Technical Solution & Applications Leader within the Engineering organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Solution Development
- Provide technical expertise on the company's manufactured product offerings, particularly switchboards, panel boards, and other power distribution equipment
- Determine technical feasibility of custom solution requests for manufactured products
- Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of UL standards, NEC requirements, and other relevant technical specifications
- Support the development of standard product configurations and engineering standards
- Model complex configurations for manufactured products to assess technical viability
- Validate that proposed solutions meet safety standards and compliance requirements
Cost Estimation & Quotation
- Provide detailed labor and material cost estimations for manufactured products
- Ensure accuracy of pricing data to protect project margins
- Create quotations for manufactured equipment based on technical requirements
- Coordinate with the Pakistan-based estimation team for proposal development
- Maintain costing databases and contribute to quotation process optimization
Technical Specification Review
- Review customer specifications for technical compliance and manufacturability
- Identify required exceptions to specifications and provide technical justification
- Analyze large specification documents (sometimes 100+ pages) to extract key requirements
- Recommend appropriate solutions based on technical specifications
- Document technical decisions and specifications for manufacturing
Engineering Standards Development
- Contribute to the development of standard product offerings
- Document technical parameters and configurations for standard products
- Create technical references for repeatability and efficiency
- Maintain engineering standards documentation
- Support continuous improvement of manufacturing processes
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with the Sales organization to provide technical expertise on manufactured products
- Interface between Engineering and Sales to ensure manufacturability of proposed solutions
- Support the creation of technical documentation for manufactured products
- Assist with HubSpot implementation for technical aspects of proposals
- Provide training and guidance on technical aspects of manufactured products
Requirements:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical degree
- 5+ years experience in power distribution equipment engineering or similar role
- Strong knowledge of UL standards (UL 891, UL 67) and NEC requirements
- Experience with power distribution equipment manufacturing and design
Technical Knowledge
- Deep understanding of low voltage distribution systems
- Proficiency with electrical design software and tools
- Expertise in switchboard, panel board, and power distribution unit design
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes and constraints
- Knowledge of HubSpot or similar CRM systems
