We are currently looking for an API Developer for a 100% remote position supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that enable secure and efficient communication between software systems. The selected candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless system integration, performance optimization, and adherence to best practices in API architecture and security.
The candidate must reside within the continental US.
Responsibilities:
- Define and document API specifications, endpoints, data models, and protocols such as REST and GraphQL.
- Design, develop, and implement APIs using programming languages and frameworks such as Java and Python.
- Integrate APIs with internal and external systems, applications, and third-party services to ensure reliability and scalability.
- Write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests for APIs, ensuring performance and stability.
- Create and maintain clear documentation for API consumers, including usage examples and best practices.
- Implement and maintain authentication, authorization, encryption, and other security best practices.
- Monitor and optimize API performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Manage API versioning to ensure backward compatibility and minimize service disruption.
- Collaborate with developers, architects, QA engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Provide ongoing support, troubleshoot issues, and implement enhancements based on user feedback.
- Contribute to team objectives and take on additional responsibilities as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in API development and integration.
- Advanced proficiency with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Git, Java REST Web Services, Spring Boot, and SQL.
- Strong understanding of API design principles, data modeling, and secure coding practices.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- U.S. Citizenship required, with the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
Additional Qualifications:
- Intermediate experience with Docker, Helm, and Kubernetes.
- Intermediate proficiency with Python and Ruby.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and container orchestration best practices.
- Experience working in Agile development environments.
