Roles and Responsibilities
- Ensures close support to the sales team in the `Identification Phase` pre R1. This may include support for customer meetings, presentation and positioning of relevant GEV technologies or co-ordination of high-level technical information to support pre-ITO activities.
- Provides leadership and guidance to a team of Application engineers, ensuring adherence to relevant processes (completion of R1 etc) and ensuring appropriate prioritization of opportunities in coordination with the rest of the ITO organisation.
- Leads development of suitable technical solutions (configuration, performance estimation, economics, etc.) in response to customer RFQ.
- Possesses a deep understanding of relevant markets and customer economic value that aid winning bid strategies. This includes 'ITO': Technical analysis of client need: definition and optimization of the products; scope (description); schedule; industrial scheme; cost, considering contract and internal policies and procedures. Calculation of plant, system and equipment performance and efficiency.
- Development of suitable documentation of technical specifications for further contract execution phases. This also includes integration with OTR team as necessary.
- Supporting development of costing/estimating best practice to support team in core costing activities during pre-bid and bid phases.
- Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline. Serves as best practice/quality resource. Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contributes towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
- Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.
- Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
- Acts as a resource for those in the team with less experience. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
- Support development of processes and systems to help manage multiple proposals at various stages of the sales cycle, consider how submissions can be streamlined, challenge the process and champion improvements.
- Lead technical negotiation with customers, supported by broader technical and commercial leadership as required.
- Ensure seamless hand-over from tender phase to execution on award, involving the project management organisation prior to handover as necessary.
- Drive implementation of proposal standards and ensure new commercial models are considered as appropriate to maximize orders volume and market reach.
Required Qualifications
- This role requires significant experience in the Engineering/Technology. Knowledge level is comparable to a Master's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma with relevant experience).
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in similar roles.
- Capability to manage multiple stakeholders across a complex matrix organisation, with demonstrated ability to influence others in order to reach a mutually agreeable outcome, in a culturally diverse environment.
- Ability to take initiative and act independently with good judgement.
- Problem solving attitude, pragmatism, flexibility and resilience.
- Excellent written and communication skills & fluency in written and spoken English.
