Who You Are:

We’re looking for an end-to-end Analytics Engineer who bridges technical execution and business impact. You're equally comfortable writing dbt models and SQL as you are translating stakeholder needs into data solutions. You'll own the whole journey, from designing transformation pipelines that turn messy source data into clean, governed datasets, to collaborating directly with analysts and business partners to ensure the data actually solves their problems.

You'll build dbt models, develop dashboards, and work hands-on with stakeholders to understand requirements, gather feedback, and iterate on solutions. You'll be a trusted partner who helps teams make better decisions with data.

Day to day, you’ll:

  • Write and maintain dbt models.
  • Debug tricky SQL logic.
  • Work with the Data team in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Translate ambiguous business requirements into dependable datasets.
  • Build logical data models and automated data quality checks.
  • Partner with data engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to ensure data is accurate and actionable.

This role is ideal for someone who loves to create well-structured data, enjoys solving technical puzzles, and wants their work to directly shape how the business understands performance.

This role can be based anywhere in the US.

What You Will Do:

  • Data Modeling and Transformation:
    • Use dbt and software engineering best practices to build, maintain, and document business data models that facilitate in-depth analysis.
    • Translate complex business requirements into precise technical specifications that support well-formed data models and efficient data analysis.
    • Develop scalable, efficient data marts that support self-service analytics.
  • Author Efficient, Well-Written SQL Queries
    • Craft clean, modular, and well-documented code using CTEs and dbt best practices, creating a codebase that is easy for the entire team to understand and maintain.
    • Troubleshoot and refactor existing data models, identifying logical errors or performance bottlenecks and implementing elegant solutions.
    • Optimize queries for performance and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with the Data Team and External Stakeholders
    • Maintain open and clear communication with teammates and stakeholders from diverse teams. We regularly work with teams such as Finance, Marketing, Sales, Customer Experience, and Engineering.
    • Provide technical expertise and support to stakeholders utilizing self-service data.
    • Present complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders in clear, actionable terms.
    • Guide business users on best practices and analytics capabilities.
  • Pipeline Maintenance and Optimization:
    • Work with tools like Census to integrate data models seamlessly into our analytics workflows.
    • Monitor data quality and resolve anomalies to ensure reliable data for analysis.
    • Collaborate with data engineers to optimize data pipelines to deliver accurate, timely data.
  • Documentation and Best Practices:
    • Create and maintain thorough documentation of data models and analytical processes.
    • Advocate for best practices in data modeling, data governance, analysis methodologies, and model testing.

What You Bring to the Table:

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in analytics, data science, or equivalent analytical functions.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, including concepts such as window functions, CTEs, and User-Defined Functions.
  • Hands-on experience with dbt or an equivalent tool.
  • Experience with data warehousing platforms and tools like Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
  • A good understanding of Git and version control.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively alongside data engineers, analysts, and business teams.
  • Strong analytical skills with comfort in exploratory and descriptive data analysis.

Preferred

  • Experience integrating dbt into cloud-based data pipelines.
  • Experience with data orchestration tools like Airflow or Dagster.
  • Familiarity with reverse ETL using tools like Census or HighTouch.
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts and modern data architectures.
  • Experience with data documentation (e.g., creating data dictionaries, data catalogs, or stakeholder-facing documentation in tools like Notion).
  • Familiarity with using AI tools, such as Claude Code, Cursor, or ChatGPT, to accelerate development and enhance coding productivity.

What We Bring to the Table:

  • Competitive and fair compensation: We believe in fair pay--equal pay for equal work. For each title, we consistently apply competitive salary bands based on market data and benchmarks which are reviewed twice a year. What you’ve been paid before, fear of conflict, or willingness to negotiate does not play a part in determining your pay.
    • The annual base salary range for this position is $136,000 - $152,000. Placement within the range is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to: knowledge, skills, years & depth of experience, and equity with internal team members.
  • 401(k) retirement plan: We offer both a Traditional and Roth 401(k) with a company match.
  • Company-paid medical: Our medical, dental and vision premiums are covered 100% for you and your dependents.
  • Paid parental leave: Welcoming new family members is exciting, but it can also be challenging. We offer twelve weeks paid leave for primary caregivers and four weeks for secondary caregivers.
  • Unlimited vacation: At Storyblocks, we believe in the importance of taking time off when you need it. Typically, employees take about three or four weeks each year. Plus, two company-wide week breaks in July and December.
  • Flexible work options As a fully remote company, we’ve got you covered no matter where you are. Remote work stipend? Check. Company and team events? Check.
  • Flexible work options: All of our work is virtual. As long as you deliver results, you are welcome to get your work done during unusual times when desired.
  • Company-sponsored mentorship and growth: We encourage attending virtual meetups and are happy to host them as well. We also have a leadership coach, on staff, available to all employees to enhance your professional development.
  • Employee perks: We help employees maintain work-life balance and honor their contributions to the organization by offering resources such as a financial wellness program, a subscription service that offers unlimited deliveries from thousands of eligible restaurants with $0 delivery, and a recognition and rewards program that celebrates their accomplishments.

  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
