🚀 We’re on a mission to make money work for everyone.
We’re waving goodbye to the complicated and confusing ways of traditional banking.
After starting as a prepaid card, our product offering has grown a lot in the last 10 years in the UK. As well as personal and business bank accounts, we offer joint accounts, accounts for 16-17 year olds, a free kids account and credit cards in the UK, with more exciting things to come beyond. Our UK customers can also save, invest and combine their pensions with us.
With our hot coral cards and get-paid-early feature, combined with financial education on social media and our award winning customer service, we have a long history of creating magical moments for our customers!
We’re not about selling products - we want to solve problems and change lives through Monzo ❤️
Hear from our UK team about what it's like working at Monzo ✨
Monzo’s mission is to make money work for everyone. We're building a new kind of bank—one that lives on your smartphone and helps you take control of your finances. Our passion for transparency has helped us build a loyal following in the UK of over 13 million customers, and we’re looking to bring Monzo magic to the US. This is your chance to be part of a new team, building a Neobank from the ground up.
🚀 The RoleWe're looking for the first Analytics Engineer to join Monzo’s US expansion team. This is a critical strategic and technical role where you'll shape the data foundation for our entire US business.
We need someone who can effectively build on top of Monzo’s global data infrastructure, and who has the expert judgment to determine when we can leverage existing data models vs. when we truly need bespoke modeling for the US.
Your work will directly multiply the productivity of our US data team by empowering Data Analysts and Data Scientists, and it could pave the way for any future worldwide expansion.
💻 What you’ll be doing- Architect the US Data Foundation: You will own the US data model from end-to-end, identifying gaps and building the roadmap to fill them in collaboration with our SF-based Lead Data Scientist.
- Make the Critical Calls: You will be the expert voice, deciding when to leverage Monzo's global models and when to build new, US-specific solutions.
- Bridge the Atlantic: Work closely with our brilliant global AE team (UK) to ship data modeling improvements that benefit the US market and the entire company.
- Build the US-Specific Stack: Design, build, and maintain the robust, scalable, and high-quality data models that will power our US-specific products and analytics.
- Be the US Stack Expert: Act as the go-to technical owner for dbt, data modeling, and our data stack for the entire US team.
- You are a true builder who thrives on autonomy. This is a "first" role. You'll be the only AE in the US, acting as a self-starting architect, problem-solver, and technical leader.
- You are a dbt and SQL expert, period. You have deep, significant experience in data modeling, ELT/ETL, and building "data as a product." Advanced SQL is second nature.
- You're a Git pro. You know how to use Git/Github to develop, review, and collaborate in a large, shared codebase.
- You are a world-class communicator. You can work effectively across timezones (US/UK) and translate complex technical concepts to any audience.
- You have an unyielding bar for quality. You have a keen eye for detail and a deep-seated commitment to data accuracy and reliability.
- You’re all-in on the mission. You're genuinely excited to tackle the messy, high-impact challenges of a new market and build a bank from the ground up.
- Experience with LookML (if you don't have this, a strong willingness to learn it is a must).
- Experience with Python for data manipulation or scripting.
- Experience working with orchestration frameworks such as Airflow.
- Salary: $94-159k + stock options.
- Location: This role can be based in our New York or San Francisco offices, or fully remote anywhere in the United States.
- Reporting: You will report to our Senior Manager of Data Science for Expansion, Dillon Kelly, who is based in London.
- Visas: We are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role at this time.
