Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT) is the world’s largest telematics service provider. Its mission is to make the world’s roads and drivers safer. The company’s AI-driven platform, DriveWell® Fusion, gathers sensor data from millions of IoT devices — including smartphones, proprietary Tags, connected vehicles, dashcams, and third-party devices — and fuses them with contextual data to create a unified view of vehicle and driver behavior. Auto insurers, automakers, commercial mobility companies, and the public sector use insights from CMT’s platform to power risk assessment, safety, claims, and driver improvement programs. Headquartered in Cambridge, MA, with offices in Budapest, Chennai, Seattle, Tokyo, and Zagreb, CMT measures and protects tens of millions of drivers across the world every day.

As an Analytics Engineer Intern, you will work alongside CMT's IoT and Data Engineering teams to build scalable data pipelines, design clean data models, and deliver self-service analytics that power real decisions. At CMT, AI is not a buzzword — it is how we work. You will use AI tools throughout your day-to-day, from accelerating pipeline development to enabling AI assistants that let stakeholders query and interpret data in plain language. Your work will directly support IoT Operations and Product Analytics teams as they monitor device health and understand driver behavior across millions of vehicles every day.

CMT is looking for a collaborative, AI-curious, and technically sharp Analytics Engineer Intern who wants to join us in making roads safer by making drivers better!

Responsibilities:

Design and build data pipelines to ingest, transform, and model telematics and IoT device data at scale

  • Develop and maintain data models using SQL and tools such as dbt or Spark to support analytics use cases
  • Create dashboards and self-service reporting for IoT Operations and Product Analytics stakeholders
  • Collaborate with engineers and product managers to define KPIs, metrics, and data requirements
  • Investigate data quality issues and implement validation checks to ensure reliable outputs

Leverage AI coding assistants (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code) to accelerate pipeline development, code review, and debugging

  • Structure and document data models so they are interpretable by AI assistants, enabling stakeholders to query device and driver data in natural language
  • Document data assets, transformation logic, and analytical methodologies
  • Complete any additional tasks as they arise

Qualifications:

Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field

  • Strong proficiency in SQL; experience with Python is a plus
  • Familiarity with data warehousing or cloud data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Redshift, BigQuery, or Snowflake)
  • Exposure to data transformation tools (e.g., dbt) or big data frameworks (e.g., Spark) is a plus
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau) is a plus
  • AI-curious mindset — excited about using AI tools to work faster and smarter, and comfortable experimenting with LLM-powered workflows in a professional environment
  • Ability to work independently and communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Fair and competitive hourly rate based on education level
  • Flexible scheduling options depending on role and responsibilities

Additional Perks:

  • Feel great working to improve road safety around the world!
  • CMT will do all that is possible to support our employees and create a positive and inclusive work environment for all!

Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion:

At CMT, we believe the best ideas come from a mix of backgrounds and perspectives.

We are an equal-opportunity employer committed to creating a workplace and culture where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to bring their unique talents and perspectives. Diversity is essential to our success, and we actively seek candidates from all backgrounds to join our growing team.
