What is the Market Data Services group responsible for?

Market Data Services is part of the Strategic Sourcing and Vendor Management Group and supports strategic initiatives and firm-wide objectives through the global vendor management process. The Market Data Department is responsible for the acquisition, management, and delivery of financial market data used across the organization. This includes pricing, reference data, real-time market feeds, and analytics that support investment decision-making, risk management, trading, compliance, and client reporting.

What is the Senior Analyst - Strategic Sourcing Vendor Manager responsible for?

The Senior Analyst – Strategic Sourcing Vendor Manager is responsible for managing the procurement, management, and optimization of market data services across the organization. This role combines vendor relationship management, contract negotiation, financial oversight, and subject-matter expertise in market data to ensure the firm has access to high-quality, cost-effective information that supports investment, trading, risk, and operational needs.  This senior position requires strong technical expertise, a deep understanding of global markets and financial instruments and requires collaboration across teams to address data challenges, enhance governance frameworks, and align market data usage with global business needs. This is a highly visible role with the opportunity to influence how Franklin Templeton leverages data to support investment decision-making worldwide.

What are the ongoing responsibilities of a Senior Analyst - Strategic Sourcing Vendor Manager?
  • Negotiate contracts, renewals, and licensing agreements to secure favorable terms, pricing, and service levels.

  • Review and analyze contract terms, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

  • Ensure adherence to vendor licensing agreements and data usage policies.

  • Support market data governance initiatives, including usage compliance, audits, and risk management.

  • Identify opportunities to consolidate services, reduce duplication, and optimize market data spend.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact and relationship management of major data providers (e.g., MSCI, FTSE Russell, S&P, Bloomberg, ICE, Moody’s) regarding data licensing, data quality issues, and other vendor management issues.

  • Responsible for monitoring the contract renewal process and notifying appropriate partners.

  • Work with the Market Data Operations Finance team to support invoice processing, reconciliation and order processing to ensure billing accuracy.

  • Responsible for contract life cycle from negotiation of commercial terms and fees through legal review, supplier risk and finalization.

  • Partner with investment teams, operations, risk, and compliance to ensure index data supports firm-wide workflows.

  • Assess new vendor offerings and emerging technologies, recommending adoption where appropriate.

What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required

  • 5-10 years’ experience related to market and reference data vendors and services, industry trends and contract negotiation

  • Experience with market data vendors (e.g., Bloomberg, Refinitiv, ICE, FactSet)

  • Proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively

  • Strong attention to detail with ability to multi-task with appropriate prioritization

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and vendor management skills

  • Results driven with attention to detail and the ability to move quickly and multi-task, while staying organized

  • Strong communication and presentation skills and ability to engage effectively with all levels within the firm

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, 365; experience with Coupa and Optimize Spend a plus
