Oddball believes that the best products are built when companies understand and value the things they are working on. We value learning and growth and the ability to make a big impact at a small company. We believe that we can make big changes happen and improve the daily lives of millions of people by bringing quality software to the federal space.
What you'll be doing:
We are seeking a skilled and adaptable AI Solutions Architect to help design and deliver innovative, production-ready AI/ML solutions that solve real-world problems for federal partners. This person will collaborate closely with product, engineering, and stakeholder teams to uncover challenges, shape technical strategies, and implement scalable, secure AI systems. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on experience in machine learning and software development, communicates clearly across technical and non-technical audiences, and thrives in fast-paced, collaborative environments.
This is a highly visible, hands-on role where you’ll define Oddball’s AI technical vision, support growth and sales efforts, and guide small teams through agile experimentation and delivery cycles.
What you’ll bring:
- 7+ years of experience in software development, data science, or applied machine learning
- Ability to analyze complex systems, identify problem areas, and design AI-powered solutions that align with user needs and agency missions
- Strong knowledge of LLM architectures (e.g., BERT, RAG, GPT) and ability to explain them to non-technical stakeholders
- Familiarity with cloud-native AI stacks on AWS, Azure, or GCP and comfort designing scalable, secure ML workflows
- Hands-on experience with tools like Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face, or similar ML frameworks
- Practical understanding of vector search, embeddings, knowledge graphs, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines
- Proficiency using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to rapidly iterate and ship prototypes
- Ability to lead and mentor a small team of engineers to deliver quick-turn solutions and PoCs
- Clear, confident communication and presentation skills — including live solution demos with federal stakeholders
- Experience working across product, design, and business teams to shape AI-powered features and services
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Bonus if you have:
- Understanding of responsible AI principles, including fairness, explainability, and secure handling of PII/PHI
- Experience with AWS services like Bedrock, Comprehend, Lex, or Azure equivalents
- Familiarity with AI/ML applications in federal health, veterans’ services, or modernization initiatives
- Past involvement in business development, innovation labs, or early-stage solution architecture
