Who We Are

Vividly is the leading modern trade promotion management (TPM) solution built by and for the consumer packaged goods industry. From campaign creation to deductions management and promotion measurement, we help brands manage every element of trade spend. With our easy-to-use platform and industry-leading experience, we pride ourselves on our ability to bring businesses to the next level.

Not familiar with trade promotion spend?  That’s OK.  Most people aren’t.  It’s a $8 trillion dollar problem that is ripe for disruption by an innovative SaaS startup.  In order to grow, consumer packaged goods (CPG) brands spend 20% of their topline revenue to get into retailers and promote their products within those retailers.  The problem is that today 70% of those promotions are not ROI positive.  This is because ROI is hard to track.  The industry operates on emails, pdfs, and excel spreadsheets, and other sources of unstructured data. At Vividly, we’re solving this massive problem using state of the art machine learning and AI methods to process this unstructured data and drive value for everyone in the chain, from brands to retailers to end consumers. Some of our customers include brands you may use and love - Liquid Death, Amy’s, and Laird Superfoods.

You Are

At Vividly, we’re redefining how CPG brands plan, optimize, and execute trade promotions — and machine learning is at the heart of that transformation.

As a dedicated Machine Learning Engineer, you won’t be building models for the sake of dashboards. You’ll be creating the intelligence layer behind mission-critical workflows used by some of the world’s top consumer brands — influencing what goes on sale, when, where, and why.

This role is ideal for someone who loves the full lifecycle of applied ML: from wrangling messy real-world data (hello, POS data feeds) to designing predictive models that solve clear business problems, to deploying those models in production and iterating based on real user behavior. You’ll work closely with product managers, engineers, and domain experts to bring smart, data-driven features to life — including:

  • Lift prediction models that help users understand what a promotion is really worth
  • Price elasticity and ROI tools that guide decision-making on pricing strategies
  • Chat-based planning assistants powered by LLMs that help users build smarter campaigns, faster
  • Prescriptive dashboards that don’t just describe what happened — they suggest what to do next

We’re not looking for someone to sit in a corner and prototype notebooks. We’re looking for a builder. You will bring modeling, data pipelines and ML to life in production in ways that directly shape the customer experience.

You’ll have autonomy, technical ownership, and a chance to leave your fingerprints on a platform used by industry giants — all while working in a tight-knit, ambitious startup environment.

What We Look For

  • 5+ years of experience in machine learning, data science, or a related field.
  • Strong Python programming skills and proficiency with ML frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn, XGBoost, TensorFlow, or PyTorch).
  • Experience designing and deploying machine learning models, particularly for time-series, regression, causal inference, or forecasting use cases.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with data modeling to support analytical and operational workflows.
  • Ability to contribute to full-stack development and DevOps needs when integrating AI and ML features.
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines and working with orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow or Dagster).
  • Familiarity with modern cloud-based data stacks (e.g., GCP, BigQuery) and version-controlled infrastructure (e.g., Terraform).
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills, especially with complex or messy real-world data

What Would Be Nice to Have

  • Exposure to event-driven architectures and real-time processing frameworks (e.g., Kafka, Pub/Sub, or Flink)
  • Experience with BI tools like Looker or Sigma
  • Background in data governance, privacy, compliance, or ML model interpretability.
  • Knowledge of data governance best practices, including security, privacy, compliance, data quality management, AI modeling, and data infrastructure.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
