About the Role

We’re looking for an engineer who knows how to make AI systems that do more than just generate text — they take action. This role focuses on building intelligent, tool-using agents that can navigate complex technical environments, identify problems, and reason about remediation paths. You’ll be part of a small, high-caliber team solving hard problems at the intersection of machine learning, systems, and software security.

Day to Day
  • Design and implement LLM-based agents that can reason, call tools, and operate within real-world environments (e.g., codebases, networked systems)
  • Develop and evaluate workflows where agents detect insecure patterns and propose or perform remediations
  • Tune foundation models for specific tasks like cryptographic inspection, refactoring, or protocol understanding
  • Build toolchains and memory architectures (e.g., vector DBs, scratchpads, tool registries) to support advanced agent behavior
  • Collaborate with engineers and domain experts to integrate agents into real-time systems and observability pipelines
What You Bring to the Table
  • Strong experience with AI agent frameworks (e.g., LangChain, ReAct, AutoGPT, OpenAgents, or custom architectures)
  • Deep understanding of LLM behaviors, tool use, function calling, and multi-step reasoning
  • Ability to connect AI systems to real tools and data sources (e.g., code parsers, static analyzers, network logs)
  • Software engineering fluency (e.g., Python, Rust, or Go) and ability to own model + infrastructure integration end-to-end
  • Systems thinking — can model workflows, manage agent state, and reason about downstream impact
Extra Credit
  • Experience applying AI to code reasoning, static analysis, or software remediation
  • Knowledge of cryptographic protocols and common vulnerabilities
  • Built agents that autonomously identify and fix misconfigurations or security flaws
  • Exposure to compliance automation or large-scale infrastructure audits

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
