Agentic Systems Architect

Translate Strategy Into Scalable AI Execution

At MERGE, we’re building the agency of the future—where creativity meets technology, and strategy drives measurable outcomes. At our AI Garage, we're building the future of intelligent automation—where conceptual strategy meets hands-on implementation. We're looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Agentic Systems Architect to help design and deliver the technical backbone of our agent-based AI systems. In this critical role, you'll partner closely with AI Transformation Specialists to turn high-level process visions into real, orchestrated workflows using agents, tools, and APIs. Your work will power cutting-edge automation initiatives across a fast-evolving ecosystem.

What You’ll Do

AI Architecture & Workflow Design
● Translate AI transformation strategies into actionable technical architectures
● Build and iterate on agent orchestration workflows and prototypes
● Perform QA on technical implementations to ensure delivery meets business intent

Solution Discovery & Assessment
● Identify and evaluate existing agents, tools, and APIs aligned to automation needs
● Conduct feasibility studies including benchmarks, integration complexity, and scalability
● Contribute to the broader discovery pipeline by surfacing viable external and internal solutions

Capability Monitoring
● Stay on the pulse of rapidly evolving agent/tool/API ecosystems
● Maintain and update capability matrices mapping available solutions to business needs
● Surface new opportunities enabled by emerging technologies

Technical Gap Analysis
● Document where required agent capabilities don’t yet exist
● Collaborate with stakeholders to drive “build vs. wait” decisions
● Provide engineering-ready specifications for internal development when needed

Who You Are

A Systems Thinker
You bring a structured approach to complex problems. You naturally map interdependencies between agents, APIs, and orchestration flows—and translate abstract concepts into scalable solutions.

A Hands-On Technical Strategist
You’re fluent in the language of modern API architecture, agent frameworks, and microservices. You prototype. You test. You guide implementation with a strong sense of accountability to business outcomes.

A Curious Explorer
You’re deeply engaged in the fast-changing landscape of AI tools and automation platforms. You constantly scan the horizon for what’s new, what’s better, and what’s next.

A Translator Between Business and Engineering
You can speak both languages. You thrive in cross-functional collaboration and bring clarity to complexity for stakeholders on both sides.

What You’ll Bring

● Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
● 7+ years of experience in API integration, automation engineering, or systems architecture
● Deep knowledge of agent-based frameworks, orchestration models, and modern API standards (REST, GraphQL, Webhooks)
● Strong technical evaluation and documentation skills, with attention to detail and system-level thinking
● Experience gathering and translating business requirements into scalable, technical implementations
● Proficiency in at least one programming language for prototyping or agent testing
● Collaborative mindset with experience working between business, product, and engineering teams

Bonus Points
● Experience implementing AI agents or automation flows
● Familiarity with major AI platforms and ecosystems
● Background in enterprise integration and API governance

  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
