About the role:

The Affiliate Business Development Representative (BDR) is responsible for recruiting, onboarding, and activating high-quality affiliates for the Affiliate Department. This role requires a strategic and proactive approach to outreach, relationship-building, and onboarding, ensuring that new affiliates understand how to drive subscriptions. Compensation includes a base salary, commission per quality sign-up, and an additional bonus when an affiliate generates their first new subscription.

Responsibilities:

  • Affiliate Performance Monitoring: Track affiliate progress, ensuring each recruit generates at least one new subscription before transitioning them to an Affiliate Manager.
  • Collaboration with Affiliate Managers: Work closely with AMs to ensure smooth transitions and support affiliates during their early activation phase.
  • Pipeline & CRM Management: Maintain accurate records of outreach, onboarding progress, and activation status in Salesforce (or CRM).
  • Performance & Reporting: Provide weekly and monthly reports on onboarding numbers, activation rates, and time to first subscription.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify trends in successful affiliates and refine recruitment strategies accordingly.
  • Engagement & Communication: Be comfortable making calls, joining Zoom meetings, participating in Zoom calls, and attending monthly affiliate dinners to ensure goals are met.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  1. Onboarding Rate: Successfully onboard 20 new quality affiliates per month (ramping up over the first two months).
  2. Activation Rate: Ensure 100% of onboarded affiliates generate at least 1 new subscription before transitioning affiliate to an Affiliate Manager.
  3. Time to First Subscription: Aim for new affiliates to generate at least 2 subscription within 30 days of onboarding.
  4. Affiliate Quality: Ensure new affiliates are engaged and likely to convert customers.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in affiliate marketing, business development, sales, or a similar role.
  • Strong sales and relationship-building skills to recruit and activate quality affiliates.
  • Familiarity with affiliate marketing, SaaS, or e-commerce industries is a plus.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
