Group/Division

With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA’s metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers. The Film and Scatterometry Technology (FaST) Division provides industry leading metrology solutions for worldwide semiconductor IC manufacturers. The FaST Division portfolio of metrology products includes hardware and software solutions for optical film thickness, optical critical dimension (CD), composition, and resistivity measurement systems. These products are essential for the IC manufacturers as they provide critical metrology capabilities for the development and implementation of their advanced IC processes. The FaST division is committed to support our customers to achieve performance entitlement of our solution and we effectively partner with our customers from their early research and development phase to the high volume in-line manufacturing implementation specific for their process needs. The division consists of a global team located in US, Israel, China, and India.

Job Description/Preferred Qualifications

About the Role

Join our Advanced Algorithm team as a Summer Intern and contribute to cutting-edge research in metrology technologies. You’ll work on investigating and characterizing next-generation solutions against current best-known methods. This is a hands-on role where you’ll collect data using KLA tools and software, analyze and summarize results, and help automate analysis workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Innovate next-generation electromagnetic solvers and implement them on high-performance computing (HPC) platforms.

  • Explore machine learning techniques to accelerate electromagnetic solvers.

    What We’re Looking For

    Education: Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

    Technical Expertise:

    • Strong background in computational physics (electromagnetics preferred).
    • Experience implementing algorithms on HPC platforms (GPU experience is a plus).
    • Familiarity with computational electromagnetic methods (e.g., RCWA, FDTD, FEM).
    • Knowledge of machine learning for physics-based problems (e.g., Fourier Neural Operator, Physics-Informed Neural Networks) is a plus.
    • Knowledge of machine learning for image processing or image denoising is a plus.

    Programming Skills:

    • Proficiency in Python, Triton or CUDA.

    Other Skills:

    • Excellent data visualization and communication abilities.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

    Base Pay Range: $43.00 - $53.00 per hour based on pursuit of a Masters and Ph.D.

    Primary Location: USA-CA-Milpitas-KLA
