This position plays a critical role in supporting the integrity and effectiveness of the Guiding Stars nutrition rating system by ensuring the accuracy and consistency of nutrition and ingredient data across a portfolio of over 250,000 products. Responsibilities include validating algorithm performance and rating outcomes using expert knowledge, reviewing private brand packaging and label updates via VisionPoint, and generating data reports through Alteryx, MicroStrategy DSS, and Power BI. The role also involves creating and maintaining compliant recipes in Trustwell (ESHA) to support menu labeling and product scoring, as well as integrating updated nutrition labels from various sources into the Guiding Stars system for comprehensive evaluation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure 100% accuracy of all product label data by thoroughly reviewing information from samples, images, or data sheets to confirm each data element is current and complete.
  • Apply the correct algorithm type-such as Beverage, General, Meat, Fat/Oil, or Baby-based on established guidelines and product knowledge to ensure consistent and accurate product ratings.
  • Develop a deep understanding of rating algorithms, including cut points, keywords, limitations, and conflicts, to accurately interpret results and compare similar products.
  • Maintain a verification accuracy rate of 95% or higher while consistently processing an average of 60 items per day.
  • Support special projects, conduct data analyses, and perform advanced product searches as needed to contribute to broader team and business objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and recommend process improvements while maintaining high standards of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Gain proficiency in one or more specialized tools or processes, including label screening using VisionPoint, data reporting through Alteryx, MicroStrategy DSS, or Power BI, and recipe creation and processing in Trustwell (ESHA).
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support evolving business needs and uphold company values.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to ensure accuracy and completeness of product label and ingredient data.
  • Familiarity with nutrition labels, ingredient data, or food product categorization is preferred.
  • Experience working with data tools such as Alteryx, MicroStrategy DSS, and Power BI.
  • Ability to review and interpret product packaging and labels using systems like VisionPoint.
  • Experience with recipe creation and nutrient analysis using Trustwell (ESHA) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet performance standards, including accuracy and productivity targets.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to identify and recommend process improvements.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to support team projects and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Willingness to learn and cross-train in specialized tools and processes to support evolving business needs.
  • Bachelors degree in nutrition, food science, data science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience using one or more of the following applications:
    • Trustwell's ESHA/Genesis recipe processing software
    • VisionPoint workflow software
    • Alteryx analytical software
    • MicroStrategy DSS or Power BI
  • Familiarity with food labeling regulations and menu labeling compliance standards.
  • Understanding of sustainable retailing initiatives, such as food waste reduction, recycling, and energy efficiency.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex data sets related to food products and nutrition.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
