The Opportunity
MassMutual is looking for a well-rounded and motivated actuary to join the Experience Insights & Assumption Management team. In this role, the individual will own high-impact analytical work and partner with the Actuarial Data Science team to translate emerging experience into actionable business insights, influencing decisions across Corporate Actuarial, Finance, Risk, Product, and Operations.
The Team
The Experience Insights & Assumption Management team sits within Corporate Actuarial and is responsible for enterprise-wide experience analysis and actuarial assumption development across MassMutual's insurance portfolio. The team collaborates within Corporate Actuarial and across various stakeholder teams to advance experience capabilities that connect emerging trends to earnings, capital, pricing, valuation, and risk management, helping leaders across the organization make informed decisions.
The Impact
Reports to: Head of Experience Insights & Assumption Management
As a key member of the Experience Insights & Assumption Management team, you will shape how emerging experience is understood across the enterprise, ensuring that assumptions are analytically sound, business-relevant, clearly communicated, and developed in accordance with applicable actuarial standards-directly supporting MassMutual's long-term financial strength and strategic objectives.
  • Independently develop and execute complex experience analysis across life, health, annuity, and related products, ensuring analytical rigor and transparency
  • Recommend actuarial assumptions informed by emerging experience, industry benchmarks, and business context, clearly articulating impacts to earnings, capital, pricing, valuation, and risk management
  • Act as an analytical owner for key experience and assumption processes, proactively identifying issues, data limitations, or risks and driving solutions
  • Support governance committees related to experience studies and assumptions by preparing analyses, materials, and recommendations consistent with corporate standards
  • Communicate complex actuarial findings in a clear, decision-oriented manner
  • Own high-quality written deliverables, presentations, and documentation related to experience studies and assumptions, continuously improving clarity, structure, and impact
  • Identify opportunities to enhance experience monitoring, analytics, and assumption-setting processes through improved methodologies, data pipelines, tools, and visualization

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field
  • ASA designation
  • 5+ years of actuarial experience in areas of experience studies, assumptions, pricing, valuation, or risk management

Ideal Qualifications
  • FSA designation
  • Experience across multiple product lines (life, health, annuity)
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across a wide range of stakeholders
  • Experience with data science, analytics and visualization skills (e.g., Python, R, SQL, Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx) and leveraging generative AI tools to enhance workflows and analysis
  • Exposure to assumption governance or enterprise actuarial oversight activities
