Actuarial Co-op, Actuarial Services
 

The Actuarial Services team is just one of the consulting services groups that form part of RSM Canada. Working with financial institutions, not-for-profit organizations, municipalities, retailers and other corporations of various sizes, the Actuarial Services consulting practice provides economic and financial value optimization for clients and their customers through the use of risk management and insurance techniques. The Actuarial Services team provides strategic support to their clients, and consistently strives to find innovative solutions. 

The Actuarial Services consulting practice is seeking an actuarial candidate to join a group of consultants as a 2-month internship, to support client needs and the overall growth of the practice. 

Your primary responsibilities will include:

Core Actuarial Functions (50%)

  • Reviewing financial/accounting statements

  • Conducting statutory actuarial liability valuations

  • Drafting valuation letters and reports

  • Gathering and reconciling client data, update and run stochastic models

  • Performing data analytics using various software and data analytics tools

  • Supporting non-traditional actuarial valuations

  • Performing actuarial model governance and controls tasks/reviews

Market Research & New Business Support (25%)

  • Performing market research and assisting with development of new business

  • Developing industry and insurance product benchmarking reports

  

Administration (15%)

  • Maintaining billable hours

  • Correspondence with client administration staff

  • Maintaining appropriate documentation of work 

Client Consulting Support (10%)

  • Developing forecasts and business cases

  • ​Preparing client letters and presentations

  • ​Maintaining and analyzing client databases

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • 90 credit hours completed 

  • Currently in the process of obtaining a bachelors degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics or similar

  • Relevant internship experience in actuarial consulting or at an insurance company an asset

  • Interest in or currently pursuing an actuarial designation

  • Previous work or educational experience with data analytics considered an asset

  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint)

  • Client-service driven and confident in his/her abilities and judgment

  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and attain deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Solutions-oriented with keen attention to detail and analytical ability

  • Self-motivated, accountable and able to work with minimal direction and/or supervision

  • Able to work as an integral part of a team and share his/her unique strengths in a collaborative manner to achieve common goals

  • Keen to understand and learn non-traditional concepts and practices as well as the awareness and understanding of non-actuarial points of view

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $34 - $40 per hour
