Job Description:

Penn Mutual’s Summer Actuarial Internship offers a dynamic and immersive experience for students pursuing a career in actuarial science. This is 11 weeks, paid, and fully remote internship where interns will gain hands-on exposure to one of four core actuarial disciplines: Pricing, Valuation, Modeling, or Product Management.

While the internship is primarily remote to support flexibility and productivity, we also offer a dedicated offsite week to foster in-person collaboration, networking, and professional development.

Program Highlights

  • Executive Leadership Engagement = Participate in exclusive sessions with senior leaders including the CEO, CFO, Appointed Actuary, and Chief Product Officer.
  • Department Information Sessions = Learn directly from actuarial teams through structured information sessions across key business areas.
  • Technical Skill Development = Receive advanced training in industry-standard platforms and tools used in actuarial analysis.
  • Mentorship Program = Be paired with experienced actuarial professionals for guidance, support, and career development.
  • Presentation & Communication Skills = Build confidence through opportunities to present both formally and informally to peers and professionals.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs actuarial tasks, which are mathematical and/or higher-level clerical nature
  • Compiles and categorizes data for experience analyses and prepared related reports
  • Prepares schedules of statistics, financial statements, premiums, reserves and benefits, documenting and verifying the factors used in related computations
  • Active team member accountable for working towards shared goals and objectives

Skills:

  • Passing an exam is not required for program eligibility, but candidate should be working towards passing exams
  • Strong communicator in both written and verbal context
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work towards the achievement of personal and corporate objectives
  • Ability to make a positive contribution as demonstrated by learning new skills and making suggestions for process/procedure improvement
  • Ability to work with others in a collaborative team environment

Required Experience:

  • Working towards a degree with a major/concentration in Actuarial Science, Mathematics or a related discipline. Business coursework a plus.

About the program:

  • Duration: 11-week summer internship
  • Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week
  • Pay rate: $25.00–$28.00 per hour, depending on the number of exams passed
  • Remote environment which includes an offsite week to meet and collaborate with the Actuarial team in-person
