Position Summary

Blackbird Health is seeking an ambitious, detail-oriented Accounting Manager to support our growing Finance team. In this role, you will report directly to the Director of Accounting and partner closely with Finance and cross-functional leaders to build out our modern accounting architecture.

You will own day-to-day general ledger operations, combining hands-on execution with strategic operational ownership, including journal entry preparation, flux analysis, multi-entity consolidation, balance sheet reconciliations, and full-cycle accounts payable management. Additionally, you will serve as a key player in high-impact initiatives, including supporting our upcoming ERP accounting system implementation and driving overall audit readiness. This hands-on role offers broad exposure across Finance and Operations in a fast-paced, multi-state environment.

What Makes You, You

  • General Ledger & Financial Close Expert: Deep experience managing month-end close workflows, multi-entity consolidations, accruals, and GAAP-compliant balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Startup-Ready & Process Builder: Adaptable, proactive, and comfortable managing confidential financial information while building efficient processes and scaling systems in a high-growth environment.
  • Systems & Automation Partner: Experienced with modern cloud accounting software and spend management platforms, with direct exposure to ERP implementations and audit prep.
  • Detail-Oriented Communicator: Meticulous approach to accuracy, high level of integrity, and strong cross-functional communication skills across Finance and leadership.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • General Ledger & Financial Close: Own end-to-end month-end close execution. Prepare and review complex journal entries, accruals, prepayments, multi-entity consolidations, intercompany eliminations, and monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Variance & Flux Analysis: Perform detailed monthly financial variance (flux) analysis across revenue and operating expenses, partnering with FP&A to translate financial data into meaningful insights for leadership.
  • Accounts Payable & Operational Accounting: Manage full-cycle Accounts Payable (AP), overseeing vendor onboarding, invoice processing, payment runs, corporate card management, and expense management tools.
  • System Implementation & Audit Readiness: Serve as a core operational partner in evaluating, designing, and implementing our next-generation ERP system. Prepare audit-ready workpapers, schedules, and internal controls for external financial audits.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Support invoice processing, operational initiatives, and cross-functional projects alongside Finance and People team leaders as Blackbird scales.

The Basics You'll Need

  • 3–5 years of progressive experience in general ledger accounting, public accounting, or financial operations in a high-growth, multi-state startup environment.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience); CPA is a strong plus.
  • Solid technical knowledge of US GAAP, multi-entity consolidations, complex journal entries, and variance analysis.

  • Direct exposure to ERP implementation projects and external financial audit preparation.
